Last week my disco started the taping noise.
I have right under 90000 miles.
I have heard of lifters, values, and Header gasket
Anyone know what to do or what is wrong??

Pour some redline gas treatment in with less than 20 gals in the tank. See how that works out first.

I have heard that too with the gas treatment. Another post said to put 1 pint of ATF in the fuel tank and it can clear up the noise. Didn't work for me but mine has been "tapping" since I got it a year ago.

Anyone replaced their rockers? How big a job is it? Or does anyone else know what the noise is? Sounds like rockers to me.

I will try that Redline, sounds like it would be better for the fuel filter. But it just started it wasn't a gradule increase in noise. Thats why i am thinking it mit not be cunk on the valves

positive it is a tapping in your engine and not a ticking from an exhaust leak? mine has a wicked ticking from the down-pipe to the y-pipe.

Yep it was a bent valve hitting the # 7 piston...

Ouch, how can you tell if its the Valve!
Did the down pipe just start taping out of the blue?

I had the problem. Was a bad lifter. Had them all replaced. Not too bad. Good luck.

MarkM,

Did you replace the lifters yourself? If so, how long did it take you. How much did you spend? I got one quote for parts of $12 per lifter.

Mikey i was out 4 wheeling like the add says.. I was not pushing it hard, always maintained and how does it repay me clack clack clack.... When I got home i did a comperssion and #7 cylinder held 0 PSI... When i pulled off the head the exhaust valve was galled and bent not bad but just enough to hit the piston edge and piss me off.... Lifters most of the time all that those require are cleaning I took my heads rods and lifters into a local engine builder and had him got through it all... Still looking for a used piston to put it all back togeather

I have the ticking noise and it's driving me crazy. But reading the posts, how can I tell if the ticking is coming from the engine or the exhaust? Trying to give my garage some advice before getting porked at the dealership

Try this, use a long screwdriver like a stetphoscope. (SP?) Put your ear on the handle and the metal on the rocker cover, manifold, whatever, while the engine is running. It will help you isolate where the noise is coming from. Really!

Rockers are not hard at all to replace, but if you do those you might as well consider having a valve job and consider replacing the lifters and risers. Hell, what about the cam and timing chain! Especially if your over 80K. It will all be right there when you take off the manifold. Check our RPIV8.com. Big help when I did my heads.
