Hey All,
I need to know the screw size and thread that attaches the licence plate to the rear door. The previous owner had all diffrent kinds of screws/bolts and threads, man is it a mess.

Thanks,
Jeremy Katka

I think you can go to any auto part store and ask for the standard size. My truck had three different bolts back there, too. I didn't ask for anything in particular, just used what the guy handed me.

I think the inserts in the rear door are 6mm (from memory here only)

I got them at Home Depot

The US size is standard and will cross thread

I just replaced mine a couple weeks ago and used 6mm bolts.

I just went to my local Land Rover dealer and asked for some, front and rear. They gave them to me.

Also, they're the same size as the screws in your snowboard bindings....if you have any extra...or even snowboard at all.

Well, as an update it looks like the previous owner (who wants his licence plate frame back) ummm used some ugly big number 12 screws and that destroyed the inserts. I have no idea what I am going do to yet. I will take off the sub and look at one of the inserts and see if they can easily be replaced. Only one of the 6mm bolts went in the rest just wont go in :(

Please, No, No, No!
Land Rover dealers fix License plate with transparent silicone sealer (3M or similar). No problem with the plate since the Disco was brand new, 1998.
No new holes or noise.

Make sure to use stainless steel bolts/screws. I hate it when rust stains around the license plate holes.

Well looks like I may make a trip to the dealer or a body shop 1 screw goes in real nice the rest of the inserts spin :( I have taken out the sub in the back door and that gives me a bit of an idea of what is going on. Boy I did not think this was going to be my biggest problem with my disco after buying it, but I am sure glad its "minor" :) Thanks
