Both of my sunroofs are making a loud clacking noise when I open and close them. How difficult would it be to replace the motors on these? Thanks! MaryB 95 Disco |

Mary, from experience w/ 2 Discos (a 96 and my current 97), It's not the motors at fault. I assume when you say clacking do you mean they clunk when you hit the switch, possibly jam and then free themselves and open freely (possibly after giving them a push up w/ your hand)? If so, It's the spring cartridge that basically is the entire sunroof assembly that must be replaced. It cost me 500.00 each sunroof on my first one until my mechanic found a LR service bulletin showing that if you carefully cut 1mm +/- off the black bumper stops, the sunroofs will no longer jam and thus break the expensive spring assembly. My 97 was doing that clunking and jamming and after trimming works like new w/o spending 1000.00 !!! Of course this only works if you do it BEFORE the spring cartidge breaks from jamming so many times. FYI....hope it helps |

How do you do this trimming? My sunroof jams and makes the noise to. I want to avoid an expensive fix later on. |

The sunroofs are not jamming. When I put them up or down, they stop where they are supposed to, but it sounds like the motor is still turning like the gears are rubbing together or something? Thanks! MaryB 95 Disco |

Jon, I have the CLUNK which happens when the roof is lifting. I can see that the tab on the window part of the assembly is catching on the tab on the truck part of the assembly, then letting loose, causing the CLUNK. Is that what you fixed with your trim? If so, please give us some details. |
