i'm getting ready to purchase a cb antenna and i need to know where to mount it.
I know i could put a magnetic one on my bumper.
Anyone have a different way of doing it.

I need a project i guess

It's called the outback I believe and someone on the board sells them for discos. If you do a search you'll find it.

Depending on your bumper, ARB makes an antenna mount for the brush bar.

Or you could go stealth and get a radio that will talk 5-25+ miles and bag the 1-5 mile CB. Tell me if you can spot the antenna mounted on my Disco in the photo area under the (Paragon pictures not GWNF).

Hey that would be pretty sweet Al. I've been using this crappy hand held CB (well it's a really good hand held but, it's a hand held) and I was looking at getting a real CB. I would be interested in knowing what your setup is or sugestions. Did you have to get a permit?

You do need a license/permit but there is no test and you can apply for it online. It also covers your family (brothers, inlaws, etc.). If I recall you're in the DC area and there is a really good repeater in the area that will extend your range over 50miles radius of DC and Fairfax Hospital. I still use my hand held once in a while but the other radio is soo much better that I really only keep the CB for a backup.

I removed my headlight washers and mounted my CB antenna in the pass. side hole where the nozzle was in the front bumper.

IMO - The best antenna mounts are found in the HAM arena. I have been using Comet mounts and put them though lots of thrashing. I use the RS-720 which can be adjusted on three axis and mounts either to my rear door or hood. You should also get a cable that uses what I (probably incorrectly) refer to as an RG-8 Mini lead to go inside the door lip. The mount and cable will run about $60.

You cannot tell in the pix, and I forgot to add that the Comet mounts by clamping to the door or hood lip using well protected screws and mounting harware. The first year I used it I had it on the hood and anused it highly with no damage to the hood or mount.

Blake,
Sorry, my digital camera is acting up. I'll get you a picture by tomorrow I'm sure. BTW, I'm using a 24" (pretty sure it's 24) black antenna from Radio Shack. Just sticks up a few inches above the hood.
