Just installed my solenoid CDL. Now I can't get the truck to move when I'm unlocked. Moves OK when it's locked. I hear a grind noise when moving from Drive to Park.

Also, I currently have my front prop shaft off to diagnose a driveline vibration. I believe one of the balancing weights got knocked off. Don't think the lack of front shaft is related, but who knows.

If your front shaft is off and your CDL is unlocked then that is your problem. All your power is going to the front.

Al,

I had a feeling that might be it, but I thought it could drive with only one shaft. Any idea why I'm hearing a grind noise putting it Park?

You can drive with only one shaft when the CDL is locked but not when it's open.

As for the grinding noise, I'm not sure. I would guess that with the open front end the transmission is still rotating even though you are stopped.Putting it into park would be like doing it while you're rolling.

Al,

I just finished hooking up the front drive shaft. All is right in the world now. Thanks for the help.

Ya, I drove around with one shaft on my truck for a while trying to figure out which one was causing a vibe. The truck makes some extra nasty sounding noises when it only has one shaft on.

RJ,

I had my nose buried in that shop manual all day. It had to have rubbed off on me!
