I have this problem with my disco. I'll be driving down the freeway at a normal rate of speed then all of a sudden it starts to cut out and me, then voila, it back to normal. It doesn't do it for long, and it seems to happen sporatically. What could this be. I've recently replaced the fuel pump (due to other reasons), fuel filter, spart plugs, wires, etc. I was once told this could be the speed sensor, but my mec friend says he doubts it' the ss without it throwing a Check Engine code, which it has not. So, I'm at a loss? Injecters seem to be fine, I even run good injection cleaner through every now and then. Thanks for any info. |

Have you recently changed your serpentine belt? If you have then you might want to recheck it. I had a similar problem and that was the cause. I usually like to start with the easiest and least expensive possibility first. Rico |

Serpentine belt was changed a week ago. I think it is indeed the VSS. |

if it is not speed related, more so heat related: Starting difficulties, sudden cut out - and the engine has the distributor with the attached amplifier module then this module could be the cause ?? I remember some articles on this. |

I am experincing the same issue.. It just started today and it is sparatic. The engine cuts in and out and it seems like each time it fluxuates 50-100rpms and pulses every 5-10 seconds. Then it stops for a little bit and starts again.. Does anyone know where the VSS is located and the aproximate cost of this unit and or the amplifier module...Is it simply a plug in device? Any help with this issue would be great. |

VSS is on the left side of transfer box right next to the park brake drum. Cost is about 80 bucks if you don't buy from the dealer. It's a pain in the ass to get your arm in there, but is held in with only one hex bolt (5 or 6mm) and one plug. I changed mine in my driveway without jacking the truck up. Matt Rigby |
