Once you have shifted to Diff-lock do you still have to be moving to change from low-->high lock? ANd also when you change the oil. You have to drain oil, re-fill with clean oil then Change the filter. how does all the oil not come out when the filter is removed? I think thats a legit question and has always been a mystery to me.

high-low you have to be pretty much stopped. you can lock in at any time.

Phillip,

When you pour the new oil in, it's all down in the oil-pan, below the oil-filter level. Only what is residually in the system is found throughout the engine.

And, you can shift between lock and unlock at any time, but to shift between hi and low range, you've got to stop, or, be coasting along at 1 or 2 mph...

FWIW...

No. If you're in high, and need to go to low, you need to stop, or be moving VERY slowly.

You can have it in low-unlocked and switch to low-locked on the go, or be in high-unlocked and switch to hi-lock on the go. To go from high-to-low, though, or low-to-high, you have to slow it down.

Realize what you're doing: when you engage the lock, you're not changing gears, you're just ensuring that the power is split 50/50. When you go from high to low (or back), you're shifting gears in the transfer case.

Good luck on getting the D90.

Holy crap! You mean I can lock it on the fly? I just installed a D1 linkage last night so up until now I have had to stop the truck, crawl under to lock, and then have fun. Doing this for months has conditioned me to associate engaging the CDL with stopping. It hadn't occurred to me yet that I could engage it will moving. Not only do I get to avoid laying in the mud, I don't even have to stop now. This is like fucking Christmas!

I think I'm going to cry. Thank guys.

Rick
