I am replacing the cracked rear view mirror in my '96 D1 with one from an '01 D2. I have to splice the wires and was hoping someone would know which wires go to which. The stock mirror has 3 wires; black, white and gray. The D2 mirror has 3 wires; brown, red and gray. |

Tommy, sorry I can't help with the wiring but maybe you could help me. How did you remove the rearview? I can't seem to find a way to get the plastic cover around the mount off. I'm afraid to pry to much and break the glass. Thanks Jeff |

You don't need to remove the plastic cover, it is probably just stuck. I applied some One Lube (or use WD-40) which loosened it up and allowed me to slide it off. After you apply some One Lube it should feel looser and then you just push upwards. |

Just put a new mirror in my '96 last night. All I had to do was grab the housing by window and pull down (in line with the windsheild). Came right off. It was more difficult to get to the plug up in the headliner. In case anyone wonders, a mirror from a '98+ D1 (with map lights) fit perfectly in my '96. I have been told that some older models used an adhesive pad instead of the bracket... |
