My second post with another problem. New owner of a 97 TDi @ 62000 miles. When I turn the steering whel left, and only left, there is a gentle groan which seems to be coming from inside the steering column. PS pump OK, it is worse when turning from full right lock to full left. Sounds to me like a lubrication problem. Any advice would be appreciated.

Please excuse the potential inuendo that could be associated with the message above, the groan occurs whether the wife is in the car or not.

Bas.

How's the PS fluid level?

Sounds like that when it's low on fluid....

If that low on fluid that pump should be crying, Feed Me Feed Me or a real loud whine

Basil- Have you run a CarFax to see if the truck's been in an accident? I had a truck make that sound when the bushings in the steering column were replaced after an accident...

Hope your truck's clean, but just mentioning a possibility.

This happens to many early Disco Is. Especially when the weather is cold. My '94 does the same thing, I've just gotten used to it. Read previous posts about this problem.

LOL at the innuendo thing!
