Is the front airdam on a D1 removable, without cutting it off. I'd like to be able to take it off when i go wheelin' and put it back on when I'm done. I know, dumb question. Just put on an ARB, or TJM, or KVT, or RTE, but can't do that yet. Thanks, Z |

the airdam is removable but it will look pretty dumb if you don't cut the botom parts of the end caps afterwards, of course then it would look dumb if you put the airdam back on with the end caps cut. Soooooo, just take the damn thing off, cut the end caps and leave it off. Personally I think it looks better without it, plus you say you cant get a bull bar yet (seeming to imply you would like one at some point) so why would you be worried about losing some of the yuppie look?? Just some stuff to think about. -Carter |

So, can i take the end caps off as well, at the same time??? I won't have the money for a while (baby on the way) so I'm trying to make our D1 a weekend trail rig, and then turn it back to the daily driver during the week. I actually like the look of the D1 airdam, but dont to beat the crap out of it, or break it when wheelin. I'm also trying to work out a deal for some cheap rims and mud tires, so just a thought. -Z |

you could do that it would be a pain to take off and put back on but it wouldn't take but 15 mins to take off and 15 to get on again once you get it down so that wouldn't be that bad i don't guess but you can remove the endcaps and the airdam and not have to cut anything and then just put it back on so you can do what you are talking about easily |

I believe that the end caps have side lights in them and the end of the bumper does not look too good without them. However, I removed them for a while, went on a long wheelin' trip and then put them back on (cut of course) and forgot about the air dam forever. Taking the dam and caps on/off is possible but a major pain, even if it is only a half hour, it is a half hour of wasted time and the plastic airdam will likely not take this kind of abuse very well. I just cut the endcaps with tin snips and then used a heat gun to warm the plastic and bend it under (to look finished). |

I removed the air dam today with the endcaps. Yeah, pretty ugly without the caps. I found a guy, well actually he found me, that has a pair of endcaps that are trimmed already and he's selling them to me, and are on their way. It was pretty easy to remove the dam and caps in one piece. I'll just do this every time I go wheeling, and just put the cut caps on. Took me about 25 minutes to take it off, but after I get the hang of doing it a few times, it should be much easier. Thanks for the info!!! I love this site |

Zak, Yeah it should be easy getting it off under a clean "pre-trail" Disco....but when you get back and crawl up under there, you're gonna need to hose out mud and other debris to get at the holes. I've almost convinced my wife to let me swap my air dam (with lights) for her's (w/o lights) ( or just put mine onto her's)... but she doesn't have the extra light switch on the dash (near the cruise control sw)... The running boards install went so well onto her Disco that she now trusts me ..... As a matter of fact she even ( can you believe this !) is asking when hers will get lifted like mine! Go figure ! Will you be at MAR? .. rumor has it that you're going New Eng. leaf-peep'n instead. Mark |
