Anyone here using the 1A Hi Rise with any type of ski/snowboard accessories on top? Where did you end up putting your crossbars? Front or rear, and can you post pic? |

i would recommend going the Thule route if you want to do a bar rack. i have the yakima, and i have the bars toward the front cause that is the only place i can put them. problem is, the way they mount, as you tighten them down, the clamp pushes in towards the roof line. towards the front, they clear the roof, but as the roof raises up, the clamps start cutting into the metal. i don't have any pix from the side, might try to get some tonight, but here is one from the front.

i have had a rack on vehicles (yak and thule) since 84...cars and sport utes. this will only partially answer the question, but on sport utes i always ran it as far back as i could because 1) it seemed quieter back there and 2) you could stand more easily on the rear bumper to load and unload stuff... given the issue above regarding clearance...those may be moot issues. for what it's worth. |

Too bad I've already purchased the bars and all. I'll have to make due. I haven't had much time to play with where they can be positioned. It looks like you were able to get them across the factory racks. I wasn't able to clear them across the very rear, where they end. And I didn't try from that point forward. I look forward to the pictures of the side. I really need to find a good position to put my snowboards on without them sticking out much in the rear or the front. |

i have the yak snowboard holder as well for the boards, and where it sits, they don't sit out too far. i had 4 boards up there this past winter and it wasn't too bad. i wish there was more space between the bars though to make a really good fit. i'll see if i can get the pictures. oh, and where the rear bar is, it is just touching the stock luggage rack as they slope upwards. |

I ran the 1A's for a while in the back--by putting a bit of outward tension on them, locking them to the crossbars, then tightening the mounts to the gutters. This was a cheesy solution, since the bars were VERY close to the roof--depending on the mounts on the accessories, they may contact the roof. Also, like the pics above show in a front mount, the clip tab is a close call too. When my patience with the bad fit died, I bought the clamps that mount my Yak gear to the LR rails. This fit is very good, but my roof box is quite high (and loud--over the front sunroof). Still, I like that idea better than using the LR stock crossbars.....the vision of my roof box full of gear cascading down the highway behind me has prevented me from trying this so far! I do recall some posts from others on the board who do use the stock crossbars for this purpose--I lack the courage. |
