Well, my transfer case is bleeding again despite being "fixed" several months ago by the stealership. I've seen various testimonials on this board for Lucas oil -- just wondering which one is good for transfer case leaks. Went to the Bumper to Bumper store and saw that they had some "Hub Oil," "Oil Stablizer," and some "No Slip" transmission oil along with the top end oil and power steering stop leak. Have also heard of "Climbing Oil" from Lucas, whatever that is. Which one do I use? Thanks, Norm |

Well, guys, don't jump in there all at once with the answer... Honestly, I tried to search the archives, but the bulk of them are inaccessable now. This chronic leak in the LT230 transfer case is apparently one of the planned design flaws "engineered" into the unit by Rover as a revenue source for their stealerships. Like the ubiquitous power steering box leak, the rebuilders have apparently solved the problem with little effort, yet this poorly-designed gasket leak continues to be a money maker for the dealers (@ $80+ a pop). Anyone have any idea what additive (Lucas or not) I can pour into this thing to stop the hemmoraging??? ---Norm |

Norm, I'm not sure how the oil additive will account for worn out seals! You can split the two halves apart, then renew the seals and use the Right Stuff to seal the halves back up. Lots of work I'm afraid. |

Thanks for the info!!! Will add some oil stabilizer tonight and see how it works. I'm just guessing it's the same gasket leak I had fixed several months ago on the upper end of the case -- apparently this is a chronic problem on the LT230. Anyway, I misspoke -- it's not a poorly designed gasket leak. From the dealer's perspective, it's a very well-designed gasket leak. I guess if I'm lucky all the oil will leak out at one time and the transfer case will blow, which will give me an excuse to get that crawler box I've always wanted... ---Norm |
