If I can get my diffs out, a local shop will put new TT/DL (F/R) in for me, then I will have to re-install to the axle casing.

Question: Can I remove the third members without removing the centralising peg from the pinion (this is actually step 5 in the manual)?

If not, is there another way to remove the peg without the "special" tool (LRT-51-008)?

Yup.

Now the shop will have to take the peg out, but my guy said that a little heat and a nice pull and out she popped.

Manual? What's that :)

You'll need to hold the front swivel assemblies away from the axle tubes (I used a couple of pieces of 2x4) to disengage the front axles from the diff. Oh, and be sure to support the swivel / brake assembly and not let it hang from the flexible brake line...

Other than that, just remember that they're heavy stinkers and you'll be able to avoid bbouncing the third member off your chest when you withdraw it from the diff housing.

Mike, It's a simple unbolt/bolt back in exercise. No special tools required, especially if they are setting the backlash and run out. A friend and I installed the same combo in mine in my garage. There was a how-to on DiffLock.com, but I can't find it.

Cool, thanks guys. One more thing...Obviously I have pull the axles out *before* the member will come out, but I don't have to pull them all the way out as long as they're supported, right?

Hmmm, just realized if I do both f/r at once, I'll need to find another set of jack stands....

Mike - the rear axles you can pull right out all the way - if you have open center wheels, you can leave the truck on the ground. For the front, you'll need to withdraw the swivel assy about 3-4" to free up the 3rd member. As stated above - just support them (I wired them to my springs) as they are very heavy buggers.

No need to remove the peg from the pinion to swap out the diffs since you're not changing the pinion or ring gear.
