Well, since my cousin has been out here harassing all the Disco owners from the XJ forum, I thought it was about time to make an appearance. Just traded up from my '93 Cherokee to a '00 Disco II, and so far, ABSOLUTELY LOVE the thing. As soon as I get rid of some of the "New Car Smell", and my bank account recovers a bit, we'll start the mods. I'd love to get some input from you all on the stock capabilities of the D2.....ie, do I spend time and $ on armor, then lifts and lockers, or what? Opinions appreciated! |

Geaorge, I think going for armour first and then lift and tires etc is a good way to do it. You can go the other way but I feel it is riskier. If I had just bought a DII, protecting it would be more important to me than ultimate off-road performance, at least initially. You will be really impressed with how capable your truck is in stock form. |

Rovertym (RTE) just came out with rock sliders for DIIs. I would get those. I had a stock truck and just added a 2" Rovertym suspension lift and rock sliders. I kept my stock tires on and I was able to ride a hard trail designed for hummers. Niall is right. You will be impressed with how capable your truck is stock. Putting rock sliders on will give you some security. |

I carry ARB/OME and what not so a bullbar isn't a big issue as far as aquisition, but how much can one expect to get for the stock brushbar on a DII? We'll be trying to recoup $$ anywhere we can during the project.... Thanks guys, RJ |

RJ, I can't say enough good things about RTE's sliders. A few other Dweb guys came over a few weeks ago and helped me install them. The fit is almost perfect, and they were pretty easy to install. From what I've heard and read, I'd stay away from the OEM brush guard. it can actually damage your fenders and front of hte rig. Save your money for a bull bar. RTE also makes a very nice one as well. Along with the RoverSolution.com bull bar. Just my .02 |

With the demand out there for people doing some (relatively) serious wheeling, what kind of aftermarket is there for some of the stock equip? I'd like to hope I can subsidize an ARB Bull Bar with the private sale of my factory brush guard, but not too sure......are these things bargain basement because people are just going aftermarket, or do people generate a demand for OEM stuff? TIA ~Geo |

definitely a demand out there. if you want best money, ebay it, people will pay an arm and a leg. if you want to make some money and also help out a dwebber, sell it here. for the most part, Discovery's are still being driven as grocery getters by the urban commandos. |

Thanks for the imput Zak, George (Disco Owner and my cousin) and I(AV4x4 owner) amd Hoping to get this beast armored soon. The Disco (calling it the Tartus) came with the stock bar and the plan is for an ARB replacement. We wanna find out how much we might recoup on the bar by selling it. I was introduced to RTE by another XJ guy who has a like affinity fo rthe Rovers and well engineered products...RTE is on muy contact list...too bad he deosn't need another retailer!!! LOL! Thanks guys, keep the info coming!! RJ |

if you are also looking for a good winch bumper, check out RTE's as well. Very well built, and better approach angles as well. if you do a search in the for sale board, there have been a few brush bars sold in there. Can't remember what they go for. Or just place a message in it, and see if anyone wants it. Or you could try selling it on ebay. They tend to go for more money on there. |

So, here's another question for the board. Talk to me about what you guys are doing with your Swaybar Setups in the Discos. With the XJ's we usually threw the rear bar in the woods, and either bought (JKS) or made a Quick Disconnect system for the front. Others would take the 15 or so minutes at the trailhead to undo everything and just Zip Tie all of it out of the way. Obviously I'm inquiring about Non-ACE equipped vehicles. Options appreciated! |

George, JKS for the front Aedofab made for me from a wrangler kit. If offroading seriously i did have bad luck with the OME kit, KVT front bumper looks the best and is made for offroading in all factors. CDL kit for the transfer case is a must, then front and rear diff locks. |
