Okay i had the cats on my 96 D1 replaced a couple days ago with the ones from summit racing (the 14 inch long ones). i ended up having to take it to the dealer to have the check engine light shut off, and they told me that with aftermarket cats the check engine light will most likely stay on because they are not as big as the stock ones. its not one now, but supposedly it will come back on. no big deal, but is this was true or not? second, a little ways down the road after i left the dealer i took a look in my rearveiw mirror, and noticed a big bubble. do the auto dimming mirrors ever go bad for no reason? im going back to the dealer tomorrow to have them replace it for free seeing as how when i dropped it off it was fine. i would have done it right when i noticed it but i need the car now, and dont have time to deal with them. thanks for any help with either of those questions Conor. |

The auto dimming mirrors do go bad. The fluid leaks out giving you your bubble. Be careful, the fluid is very caustic and will ruin your dash and whatever else it comes into contact with. I doubt your problem with your mirror was as a result of anything done at the dealership. Heat and age are the more likely culprits. Thanks, Mike B. |

Conor, just out of curiousity about how much did the cats set you back and did you just take them to the local muffler shop or weld shop? I appreciate the input as I have definately need to get mine changed within the next 2 weeks! thanks for the help justin |

The cats cost about $130 for both of them from summit racing. I got two 14 inch cats with 2 1/4 inch pipe. the part number was 6905. I took it to a local muffler shop and they welded them in for 150. it took about two hours to do because they thought they were going to have to take one of the manifolds off to get at one of the cats. they ended up leaving it on and didnt have any trouble welding it. no problems so far, so it looks like they did a good job. thanks for the info on the mirror, i wasnt sure if i should complain to the dealer or not, the bubble is very noticable when you look at the mirror, so i think that if the dealer had done something to it, they would have been honest enough to admit it. thanks for the help.
