Im going from a 2 to 3 inch lift and currently run stock style bilsteins. Wit my three inch springs I want longer shocks for more travel and have already ordered new brake lines and spring retainers. I hear so often ranchos suck, but the adjustability may be nice. 12" or 14" ? Will the retainers limit the travel anyway so I may only need 12"? But I don't know yet which brand or part numbers. I drive mostly on road but try to get out every weekend and like to push my 4X. I already have DC drive lines, radis arms and rear links so that shouldn't be a problem. Thanks for any help! Mike J.

I have the same exact question. I was running OME heavy springs all around with bilstein shocks and I love the bilsteins. I now installed 2" spacers all around in anticipation of the drop in height due to the sliders I am going to install this weekend and the front bumper and winch I'll be adding soon. I wanted to go to Bilstein 7100's but I don't know if they make em for Disco's. Anyone know?

I know the OME N76 rears and N73 fronts are much longer travel and will fit a disco but they're valved much softer than Bilsteins. Can I get these revalved?

Is it worth considering pricewise?

If John is running them they are at least RTE upper and lower rear shock mounts, if not a prototype or something custom. Ah... the beauty of owning a Rover buisness.

you will need to use a different mount. i believe john runs the dsII front shock mounts with an adapter for the bottom front and his rear mounts. you could also make some adapters for the bottom mounts and just run the DS2 uppers in the front.

convert to eyelet mounts VIA rovertym mounts...
yes john is running eyelet-eyelet shocks up front. After this weekend, i will be too.
D2 shock towers
RTE lower mount for eyelet shock
I will be using a 12 inch shock(same as in back, part # 9005 for rancho)
24 inch brake lines
have to get 20.5 inch tall freestanding springs (only available in 3 inch lift)
from the looks of it, this set up will flex pretty well...

I still don't understand what people see in those Ranchos. Your springs are not changing rates on the trail or the street, so why should the shock valvng? Bilstiens are velocity sensitive anyway so as long as you get the proper valving in the first place, you'll be fine.

The 7100s are not vehicle specific. They can be had in anything from 8" travel versions to 14" travel versions. If you need more travel, you can buy the 9100s, or move to a custom setup from someone like King.

The 7100s are available in different valving, and last year John told me his is running the 360/80 valving which is the stiffest without going custom.

Good luck. I hope to fight this battle next summer and I'm still not sure what I am going to install.

perrone-i like the ranchos because they are cheap and get the job done. So far, i see no reason to switch-so why should I?

Hey,

If it's working for you, don't switch... I've typically found that I can get OMEs and Bilstiens for nearly the same price as the Ranchos, so I don't consider them "cheap". Maybe you have a better source than I do.

Enjoy.

FWIW--I just ordered shocks this week:
Rancho RS9000 were close enough to Bilstein price at my local NAPA to dissuade me.
The "in cab" compressor and associated plumbing was extra. Yuck.
SO, I went cheap: (maybe I'll regret it later--I'll admit it if it happens...)
Rancho RS5000 were less than $40 ea. They arrived today.

Anybody have any feedback on them?

Hey Ho, just looking at some pics... what tire size are you running? It looks bigger than 235/85. I was just curious. Sorry for interupting this thread.
