Does anyone know where to get a list of the improvements
and changes to the series II for the 2003 Discovery? I know
that LR says that there are a lot but what exactly are
they? Also does anyone know anything about the
navigation center Radio that is pictured in the
vehicle kit catalog in the Discovery section? Looks cool.

LRU: there are over 700 imporvements to the 03. Including the loss of the Series II name. It's now officially just the Discovery (again)

The major changes are as follows:
Cosmetic-
1) Headlights
2) front bumper
3) tail light re-arrangement.
4) Black dash
5) black carpet
6) black rear cargo area.
Mechanical-
1) 4.6 engine from 02 RR (217hp/300lb-ft), the lower numbers from the RR are pointed at the single ex vs the RR's duals.
2) updates to the suspension, nothing in the geometry as far as I can tell yet, but it does ride alot better. I'm guessing shocks/springs/bushings.

There's more here, at Land Rover's official 2003 site: http://www.new2003discovery.com/int/home_home_1.asp

Yeah I know about the obvious changes you mentioned but like Garrett say's what about the other 692 changes. Is the a list somwhere? There must be for someone to be able to count 700 changes. I would love to see the list and I wonder how many of these changes could be retrofitted on the older Series II?

I just got off the phone with my LR dealer and the frame hasn't changed at all. And if it makes any diff I put on $G sliders and the holes lined up great and just had to be enlarged for the RIVNUT's.

So it seems that accessories for DII are X-ferable

the majority of the "692" changes are interior. they can quote that number because they have that many "new" part #'s. But, becuase there are 2 new interiors, every interior piece has a new part number. So, the majority of your 692 changes are interior related. other than that, there is throttle differences, brake adjustments, suspension adjustments, and then the obvious changes..like the motor, fascia, etc..

Ok smarty pants...
Yes LR claims over 700 chnages, but the 8 major ones I quoted are the larger bullets. Each one of those "must" count atleast 50-200 "changes" each.

Think about it.
-Headlights: 4 new bulbs, 2 new housings, 2 new lower lips, at least 2 new wiring harness', at least 2 new mounting brakets. and most likely all those new bolts & screws. = 12 at a minimum.
-Bumper: 2 new bulbs for fog lights, 2 new housings, 2 new wiring harness', 2 new brakets, 1 new bumper, at least 8 new bumper brakets, 1 new support behind bumper, 1 new grill. = 21 at a minimum.
-Interior: moved fuel door release, 1 new button, 1 new cover for old button location, at least 1 new wiring harness to new location. New leather colors must account for atleast 75 pieces. New carpet must count for at least another 50. New dash must have 50-75 new pieces. New stering wheel, at least 3 new pieces. The cargo area is all black now, so that's at least another 20. = 226 minimum.
-Suspension: even if all they did was change the bushings that's got to count towards another 25 pieces.
-Engine: I'm not even going to guess. Gotta be 300-400 all in all. Remember this is a NEW engine to the Disco, so everything counts.

Just got back from test driving a 03. With every intention of buying one. I have to say other than a few minor changes inside I was not impressed the 4.6 still wasn't what I expected it to be. I think I will stick to my 97 disco.

Just my 2 cents.

Looks just like the radio in 2001 Boxster.

Supposedly they also upgraded the braking system by using a different master cylinder as well as larger calipers. All this to improve the brake pedal feel and braking capabilities, since the earlier DII's all suffer from terrible brakes.
