Please Help Me!!! Okay, this morn. I went out and started my 96 disco (my ONLY car). It stuttered, and didnt want to start...finally started, but the heater fan wouldnt come on, and it warmed up REALLY quickly. (It was about -8 degrees in lovely Chicago this morn.) After I shut it off, I tried again to start it, with no luck. It would not turn over, nothing. The dash lights come on like ususal, but nothing else happens. When I turn the key, There is a fairly loud "click" coming from the area down by the pass. foot area. No way to get to work tomorrow, 5 degrees outside, no garage. Any advice?

Yeah , it just clicks. Temp changes ussually bring problems right to the top. I am sure the starter has some issues but they will often limp along fomr some time before completely giving up the ghost. Dont turn the key and hold it. Just keep tapping it until it cranks...

Hey Kyle, you were right(no surprise there)!! After about 25 or 30 turns of the key, it started. Thank you so much!!!!But now my question is, what can I expect from the starter now? Is it totally fried? How hard is the install of a new one? Will it be better when the temp hits 40 or 45 on wednesday? You are the sh*t, Kyle!!!!

Although I haven't the expertise Kyle has, I can tell you this, It will not get better, only worse!! Sorry 'bout that, but if you rely on it you will get stranded sooner or later.. Murphys Law and all. I had the starter in my boat do that last year and I thought, "It'll be ok 'til I get to it"
Well I got to it in the middle of Lake Winnipesaukee at around 10 pm. Not fun.. Good luck... JMcD

Well , for some contrast. Mine started doing the "Click click" when it had around 70K on it. I have a hard head and wouldnt change and it carried me up to 140K before it gave up the ghost. JMcD is right in saying that the poor thing has some issues and should probably be changed though. Moine would only really act up if it was damp or cold. It would have long working streaks for months... I guess what I am saying is , proceede at your own risk , its a crap shoot. I am not gonna mention where mine eventually left me one cold night.. :)
