Today I received a letter from Land Rover stating the following (paraphrased):

Land Rover South Bay (Redondo Beach, CA), has a special used vehicle request for pre-owned 1997 Discoverys.

They are offering "special incentives" for 1997 owners to trade in for "new" 2002 models with special rebates and incentives. I will get a free six pack ice chest just for attending (woo hoo!)

This offer is only open to past and present Land Rover South Bay customers and will not be advertised to the general public. This is a private sale.

Anyone else in LA or in the US receive anything similar from their dealer?

I'm going to go in to see what the numbers are. This should be interesting...

Jeff,

Sounds to me like a dealer promo. Dealer probably needs some good 97s to sell. Lately low priced preowned are very hot and easy to sell. Good luck.

Just called the dealership and spoke to the sales manager. He said I was the 3rd call of the day and that no one had spoken to him or his staff about the program and that he was unfamiliar with the letter. He asked that I call back on Tuesday/Wednesday after he's had a chance to find out what's going on.

Before I waste a few hours down there, I want to find out what kind of ball park #'s they are talking about. It had better be an awesome deal on the 2002 (and some incredible trade in price for my 1997) for me to buy. Once I sign the paper, I automatically take a 1 year depreciate hit before I even start the engine. My truck is free and clear...

I have heard from it over here, but after test driving the 2003 4.6 disco's, it would be hard to buy a new truck with the original engine. Lack of power is my main complaint with my 97

I haven't heard anything about that kind of promo. Must be from the dealer as we're not doing anything like that.
