Hi Everybody,

I'm ready for new tires, and I want more off roadish tires than stock. I also want them slightly larger but I have no desire for lift and rubbing. So the question is: What's the largest size given the above and which is best for a compromise tire (on road + off road)?

Thanks, also pics of mounted tires would be great!!

Emilio

Looks are subjective, but I think you'll find 265/75-16 or 235/85-16 (both just under 32") will be your largest option without lift and with very minor rubbing up front. I went with the Dunlop Rover R/Ts and they are very good all-around tires, but not so good in mud. If you're gonna be in a lot of deep, long mud runs, I'd look to the BFG MTs or Dunlop MTs. Here's a pic or two: http://www.mindspring.com/~mnoe/wheelin.html

I have a DII and having 285/75/16 BF's MTR KM put on today, will let you know if my 3 inch lift accommadates the new look ;-), I trimmed the back 1/4 panels just alittle till new bumper arrives then 3 more inches is coming off. Also have some new bumpstops to put on, may not need, or if I do I may weild a piece of 2 inch square to the bumper stop landing.

Emilio, the best size without trimming or rubbing is 245/75/16. Anything bigger will rub under flexing and stuffing. My preferance is the Good Year MTR'S. Check out my pictures in Photo gallery under Alen Babayan. The green Disco is with 265/75/16 PeP Boys garbage tires.
Good Luck

I concur with AL. Go 245/75. If you go 265, they will DEFINITELY rub with a stock suspension. They put 245 on the Trek vehicles last year, with no suspension lift.

Darryl,
hows the 285/75/16's?
I m getting ready to order 4 and 2 spares from Good Year.
I have OME HD kit and new front blade bumper and soon rear blade with 6" trimmed Quarter panels with sliders on bottom.

Thanks for the messages so far.

Yeah, it's for a DII.

I've seen the 245's on the Trek vehicles. The only problem that I see is the the rims are almost too wide for the 245's???

Anyone have experience with the 255 70's or the 265 70's?

Thanks for the pics so far.

I've been SUPER happy with my 265/75s on my DII. Slight tweak to the front wheel well wall to keep it from slightly rubbing on turns and all is well.

That extra wide and long footprint compared to the stock 255/65s kept me on top of the sand on my last trip to the Mojave, instead of under it.

I have 255/70's (BFG AT KO's) on the DSII ... These tires worked great for the most part. Make sure you switch out all five, though, including your spare ... I guess with the Disco, even a minor change (I went from stock 255/655 to 255/70) will cause problems if you don't have exact match. I now have a very modest (2" at most) lift with OME springs, and (IMHO!! LOL!!) they still look okay, and not too, too small (I know others would beg to differ on that, heh heh).

Best wishes,
Kim

I wouldn't go with anything narrower than 255. I have 235/85/16 and i scratched the hell out of my rims two weeks ago.

Took my DII out to the trails with the new 285/75/16 BF MTR KM, I love the looks and ride, no rubbing...Had to adjust turning stops out 1/8" and going to look at the bumpstops tonight.
