Last night i drove into Nashville, everything went fine. Checked into hotel, got back in my 96 Disco to go to dinner, wouldn't start. Fuel pump did not come on when i turned the key on. Tried the inertia switch, no go. Found the connection in the driver side wheel well and jiggled it abit, then the rover cranked right up! Drove fine today, went to lunch, and when i tried to start it back again, nothing. No fuel pump again. Should i pull the connector out and clean it? what should i clean it with? think i need to replace the harness? Help! im stuck out of town without the cheese to have the dealership fix it..

Randall,

That connector gets wet and dirty and burns up. In my opinion it is under reated for the Amperage demands of the fuel pump. Also, it is totally unnecessary to have a connector in that under fender position.

Cut it out and splice the wires together directly. Make sure the splicing is water tight. I have never been so happy as since I cut that weak ass connector out of there. I tried it all and nothing made that connector work properly except removal.

A good waterproofing is self vulcanizing rubber tape covered with regular electrical pvc tape. The rubber tape creates a seal that literally has to be cut off with a knife. Just my $.02.

There is a great shop nearby that can help if needed, if you mean Nash, TN. The tech has worked on Rovers since 1987 and knows his stuff, plus they are very, very fair. Call 615-870-1757 and ask for Irving. Company is called RoversAmerica and they are located on I-65 on the north side of town.

Jay,

Thanks for the info....it was the fuel pump. Picking it up tomorrow. Towing + parts + labor + tax was $500, which is 200 cheaper than the dealership, plus they'll have it done tomorrow, which is a week faster than the dealership also. Thanks gain for the info.

No problem, glad I could help - but now I know why my Disco is still there instead of in my driveway.... - had to drive the boss' Saab home and it seems more quirky than a Rover.

Irving is really a great guy and knows his Rovers and it is nice to have someone working on yours that ownes several himself (he's got a Lightweight, Disco and RR).
