There are all kinds of aftermarket bumpers out there. I bought rockware because of price, strength and the manufacturer is local. I considered Safari Guard and Rockware for my rear bumper. Rear Quarter panel and gas tank protection were a requirement.

Whoops, but then I have a D1. I think SG and RW both have rear bumpers for D2.

Only rear bumpers widely available right now is $G and Trek. $G is okay if you ignore the $2k price tag. But if you're suffering from the current market conditions then $2k is just laughable for a rear bumper. Some here like the Trek but IMO it's only a good idea if you don't want to cut or alter the stock look. Greg Davis has one worth looking into but it's not widely available since he still has a day job.

Safari Guard has one, so does Trek (both in the resources/vendors section) but I think that's about it. Lots of rear bumpers exist for the D1, but us D2 owners are kind of stuck. I made my own, so did a few other people. I like the Trek bumper, but not it's price tag.

Chris, look in my gallery. I make rear bumpers for DII's, but be warned; if you want any kind of decent departure angle, you'll need to trim some sheetmetal. Let me know if you're interested.

Just looked at the rockware website. They have pictures of a D2 set up in "in the shop" section.

I thought the Rockware bumper looked pretty nice, too. One of the problems with it right now, though, is that it's apparently not yet a production item. They have to have your truck in the shop so they can build it to the vehicle (kind of a hassle if you're not local to them). Also, it doesn't have the integrated reciever so you have to use the LR stock system or give up that recovery / accessory point.

I believe you are correct, but you might be able to contact them and see if they *must* have you vehicle. IMHO it is killer stuff. I thrashed a quite a bit this past weekend and there are only scratches to show. Each part of the bumper that you need to take the weight of the vehicle is mounted to the frame very well.

I think the only disadvantage of using the stock receiver is that it is big and costs some departure angle, but frankly I think it works great to come off rocks, leaves me with the best towing capability and would choose to leave it regardless.

Just a word of caution about Trek Outfitters equipment. I bought their front D2 bumper and rock sliders and within 6 months the powder coating washed off/faded to gray. My Disco is garaged and didn't even see much rain (drought in CO). This month I contacted TO and here was his reply.

"Mike,

Sorry to hear of your problems with the coating. Believe me, we will do everything we can to remedy this situation. We are currently trying to solve a bad batch of coating we had done. It seems to be a problem with the quality of paint/powder that was used by our coating vendor.

If you could send me some photos over email we'll tackle this thing ASAP....

We are sorry for your inconvenience and hope to resolve this to both our satifaction.
M@TT"

So I sent him pictures of the fading and he won't reply back. I guess he should have replaced, "we will do everything we can to remedy this situation" with "we'll ignore you until you go away."

a couple of weeks ago or so. maybe to matt, "ASAP" is measured in terms of months, not days or even weeks.

i'm not bitter or pissed off, i'm just giving adcotool a heads up. i never asked matt for anything actually, just giving feedback about his products, just like i did when it showed up 6 months ago with some bizarre imperfections in it. i let him know about it, didn't ask him to do anything about it, and moved on. now this time since he offered to take care of it, i was willing to listen.

right now, they are prepped in my garage waiting for the krylon treatment to get me through the winter.

Brian,

Thanks for your insights. I'll have to give them a call again and see if there is any way that they can build one w/o the vehicle in the shop. Is that your rig in the pics?
