Alright, so a month after I've had my HD ome lift on, i still don't have tires. Today I went to get some and they had 265/75 bridgestone dueler MT's. Oh god they were sexy on my truck but the guy turned the wheel and of course they hit the radius arms. Can I adjust the steering stop without buying a new bolt to prevent this? Also, is the steering stop towards the front of the car or the back in relation to the wheel? Needless to say i still have my stock tires on. AND how tall is a 255/70 tire? and how much do i need to bring the steering stop out if i had 235/85's? |

Also, what're the end caps on the front bumper? |

the end caps are the plastic deals on the corners...that attaches to the air dam on the front... go to: http://www.expeditionexchange.com/tiresizenew.htm for tire sizes later |

Ted: The steering stops are pretty obvious once you get under the truck, they are big bolts coming out of the bottom of the swivel housing. Adjust them a few turns at a time until you no longer rub on the radius arms. You should not need new bolts with 235/85s. You didn't take the sexy tires off just because they hit the radius arms did you? You certainly could have driven home to get a wrench to adjust the stops without doing much, if any damage to anything down there. Paul |

ok ok so TODAY I got up thinking I'd go to Napa, get new bolts for steering stops then head down and get those 265/75's after all. the left side steering stop was off and new one on in a matter of minutes, the right side however took about 1hr to get off because i had to actually find some real tools because it was stuck on good. So i get it on and im driving and sure enough my left bolt bent like hell. so i put the stock one back on. im saying i cant adjust my bolt much from what it was without the nut and washer falling off the back. help! i need those tires TOMORROW. sorry for length! |

i know about fender trimming, im asking about my steering stops. when i replaced them with a longer bolt, the bolt bent the first day, and if i adjust them it doesnt take long for the nut and washer to fall off the back. Im looking for suggestions about this. |

Ted: The bolt you bought at NAPA might not have been very hard, or you might have been pushing harder on the steering wheel than you thought. You might try putting a sleeve around the bolt, or a bunch of nuts to try to keep it from collapsing. As for the original bolt backing out and not staying tight, this is curious as I have yet to see a steering bump stop bolt not stay put-in fact, I have seen a few without the nuts and they seemed to work fine. Maybe clean up the threads real well and use some red loctite? You should be able to jack up your truck and turn the wheels to get an idea of where to set the bump stops. I will readily admit it can be difficult to get in there to tighten those things up. Good luck, it will be well worth it once you get those sexy tires mounted and even more so when you get it out on the trail and the new tires outperform the old ones. Peace, Paul |

Ted, Are you going to ues the trimming method or pushing out the rear wheel well out with the bracket modifiction? I will be in your position in a couple of weeks. Still haven't decided which way to jump. TrevorH |

Trevor, I'm going to trim, I've got a steady hand with a sawzall from working for a carpenter. Easiest way about it I can see. Touch it up with some touch up paint and it won't be noticable hopefully. |

Ted: A sawzall will likely carve up your fenders pretty well. I think most of us used a dremel tool with a fiber disc cut-off tool. Peace, Paul |

Why cut when you can just do this? Easy and quick, painless to go back to normal.. no rubbing on 235/85/16's http://www.discoweb.org/rearfender/index.htm |
