Any recommendations, pictures or other information on what you all use for ties downs. I recently removed the rear seats (likely they will hardly ever go back in. As a result I have some tie down points where the seats used to be. Now I need something more toward the rear of the area and possibly others. Any recommendations? Bri |

There are at least 6 tie down places on the 96-98 Disco 1s. Two in the very back, two up by the front of the rear seats, and two more on the floor boards for the rear seats. Pull up the carpet and the mat in the rear. Under, you will find black plastic plugs. Unscrew the plugs and fit whatever you want for tie downs in the holes. I think the bolts need to be 11mm or there abouts. Thanks, Mike B. |

Hey Eric, I have seen those and thought about getting them myself, but how do they actually bolt into the back of the truck? Did you drill into the bed, or did you put a backing plate under the truck and tighten it all together? I may just be confusing myself here. |

Well, I got them but, I haven't put them in yet. I planning on putting them where I want them and just drilling the holes and then using a backing plate of some sort. Or I may build a low height box with drawers and put the tie downs through the top of the box. I can't make up my mind if I'm going to build the box or just put in the tie downs.. That's why I haven't put them in yet. Either way I would use a backing plate with them or some big washers. |

Or, for all those Cheap Bastards out there that aren't concerned with the look, I used those eye-hook looking things that are used for ties downs on a pick-up bed. $10 for four, slip them through the holes in the back of your truck and tighten with the included threaded backplate. |

I think I would prefer to have something that fastened down with one threaded bolt since the threads are there. However, the tie downs mentioned by Eric sure look good are functional and seem strong enough. |

I'll bring a couple to MAR if you guys are going to be there so that you can look at them first hand to see if you like them. |

Eric/Robbie, I've got four of those mounted - all with 2" x 2" backing plates on the underside. I put one on the side of each wheel well and two on the floor near the back door. I also made some alum spacers to raise the ones on the floor so they are even with carpet level (my carpet trimming job looks like shit, but they work) Bill |

You can also use the D2 cargo tie downs. You'll need: 4 7/16" x 1 1/4" fine thread bolts 4 Cargo tiedown eyelets for Disco II You need to drill out the holes in the D2 eyelets to fit a 7/16" bolt. The threaded holes are already in the floor, just beneath the carpet padding are 7/16" UNF nuts fixed in the floor with plastic plugs. I think the D2 tie down kit is only ~$20 at the dealer. The D1 fit the 7/16 fine threaded bolts no problem, no drilling. You will need longer that 1 1/4 if you plan to have any washers or tie downs that take up space on the bolt. Any idea what the eyelets look like? |

just ordered what looks to be the same tie-down as Ken has above from McMaster.com. item number 88525T31. let everyone know how that works once i get it. work load limit rating isn't very high though, not sure how that will affect it. but for less than a couple bucks each, figure would try it. |

in case anyone was interested or following: here is a pic of the tie-down plus a 7/16" bolt. notice the "base plate" is just plastic and I will probably just use the tie down itself.
pic of just tie down
pic of bolt almost fitting the hole, so will grind out a fraction to make it fit.
