I was wondering if anybody has ever us Thule or Yak attachments on their Disco1 crossbars. I see that there are racks that fit on the factory rack bars that go from the front to the back, but I am talking about the bars that clip into those bars. I have had Thule racks in the past the the attachments have connected to cross bars that were square and looked very similar to the LR crossbars. Any body tried this with any luck? I would mainly like to be able to my skies or snowboard on the roof. Thanks for the help.

They do fit Thule exactly. Also, you can buy Yakima fittings for the Thule crossbars, like the ones on your LR.

Hey Jeremy, as easy and cheap as it is to do it that way, I would go with some attached bars, either to the rain gutter or to the Disco bars that run front to back. I have the little Thule carrier that I used for two winters to carry boards, but everytime I had it on there and took off down the highway, I was afraid the bars would pop out and my boards would go flying. They just aren't that sturdy. I finally bought the Yak high rise bars (of course, that was a mistake as well, but still better than the stock cross bars).

Ya, I guess I should mention, I now have an adventure rack on my Disco. I always liked them, but never thought I would spend that much on a roof rack when I had a rack on the car already. Well, I'm glad I spent the money. I only used the rack 3 times in a year and a half of owning the car. And I vowed never again to put a bike on a Thule rack on top of the Disco again - way too high, and much too much work just to get it up there. Anyway, your Disco rack is usefull, but not practical. The adventure rack I have now just allows me to put bikes, skis, boxes, bags, whatever up there by simply climbing up on the back spare tire and onto the roof. I have a bike up there now that I simply lift and lay down on top then strap it down. I have used the rack 10 - 12 times in the first month that I have owned it!

I have used the existing bars with great success with all sorts of thule attachments - skis, kayaks, etc. They are actually more robust than they look!
