OK, so I've gotten used to most of the rattles and pops and creaks in my Disco. But lately there has been one that just has to go! It seems to be coming from the dash on the passenger side of the car. It literally is so loud that you have to yell on the freeway to be heard by other passengers. It sounds like a gremlin in the glovebox with a tazzer gun. Really, that is the sound exactly! And it is 100% constant while on the freeway or driving above 50mph. Anyone else with this type of rattle? How did you fix it? Part of the problem is that I cannot tell exactly where it is coming from. Thanks. |

I don't have any answers for you but I do have a few questions: 1. You say it's constant above 50mph, is it intermittent below that speed or does it only occur above 50mph? 2. Does anything you do affect any change? I mean, if you open/close the sunroof, AC on/off, radio on/off, air recirculation on/off, AC vent position, things like that? If it's electric (like a relay freaking out) something's either going to NOT work or turning something on or off will change the noise - that may give you some clue. They're a bunch of relays behind the glove box and more in the footwell of the passenger side (if it's a Disco I). Otherwise, if it's only happening at 50mph or higher, it sounds physical - windshield weatherstripping or molding, AC vent buzzing, something like that. This is, of course, based on the fact that you've checked the glove box to make sure it isn't a gremlin with a tazzer gun. Good luck. Jim |

Ya, I kicked all gremlins out last time I took a drive, just for the express purpose of seeing if I could pin-point the noise. I believe it is physical, it can be heard below 50mph when you are on a rough road, or hit a bump. But when I say rough, I just mean the pavement has texture in it type of rough. And it is not ALL THE TIME, I get the sound about every 3 times I get into the car. But it does not go away until you stop and drive again another time. |
