One Word: Why?

I would be afraid to take that sucker off-road, might snap something like you see on monster trucks when pieces of wheels, axles, etc. go flying in the air.

Why,

I don't think that's meant to go off-road though.... I think it's a show truck....

It's liggit, it sat at Land Rover Greensboro for months, I don't know what was wrong wit it though. But while it was over there it had some like 30-31 inch Super Swampers on it, which looked kinda weird. I think it had some East Carolina stickers on it, so I would assume the guy is in college there. The funny part is, high school is nothing as far as competition of who has the bigger vehicle, when it gets to college the heat is really on.

I guess anything can be done. Perhaps the more pertinent question one might pose would be:

"Anyone seen a disco on 38x14.50 swampers ON THE TRAIL?"

Looks sharp, but those Hella 500's look awfully damn tiny...and the chopped stock bumpers & naked sills look out of place.

I wanna see the underside...

Ah, quit your bitchin'. It was going to happen sooner or later. At least he didn't ask on this board 1000's of times if anyone thought he could do it.

He just did it, and probably didn't ask EE which OME shocks to use and buy them somewhere else.

"Oh Tom , you like the fact that there is another hacked up Disco that wont go anywhere ? lol (Yes , I am back)

Kyle "

it all depends on the terra not so firma you are trying to cross.

in certain enviroments that disco would so out perform all other disco's just because of the tires.

In Iceland they use huge tires to keep from sinking in at all. most there wheeling is at pretty good speed over what is pretty flat areas you dont want to sink into.

it would also go pretty good on old muddy logging roads up in Canada where all you want to do it stay up on top of the settled mud. the roads were cut by huge equipment so tight isnt an issue just not sinking.

a disco on 235/85's would be damn near useless because it dosent have the tires to stay on top.

now will that disco be able to stay on top with just those 38" tires and stock power? hard to say but Id sooner try that then take pizza cutters in such terain.

It isn't running on a stock rover engine. I'm sure it would do very well at the mud bog or wiht some different tires I'm sure it could do a pretty good job at rock crawling also. Might need to cut the fenders some more though as the tires would be bending them or getting cut up when they start stuffing. I like it though. I think it's a pretty sweet looking truck.

I look at this truck and think if he wanted a muddin (not mudding) truck why do it to a Rover. He could have got a Ford or Chevy for much cheaper and fit in with that group far better than with a rover. I think its kind of sad. But, everyone has different tastes and if you have the money, I guess why not.

thats my point as well Eric, guess I'm not as good at getting my point across as john lee..lol

I think it has a place . in fact I think its pretty cool.

If it was mine I would change the off set to narrow it some as well as move the rear axle back and the front one forward. try to get the tires more where they belong.

there is alot of metal that could be trimmed to get big tires under a disco. I have held up some huge fender flares from a mack truck to mine and with some creative cutting and moving of the axels you could do any size you want.

but that brings you back to power.

sorry guys Rovers arent that special that they need to be treated like a rolls royce.

they are getting really cheap I saw a 95 with 140k on it for 4999 the other day. i know guys that spend that on a motor for there snowmobile.

disco's are now in the price range that allows people to treat them as a toy and make them into true trail trucks meant to be pounded for grins.

all the purists better get a sence of humor for there own good because I'll bet there are hundreds of disco's getting turned into really nutso rigs by former jeep, scout, bronco, chevy types as we jaw about if its right.

and these rigs will have all kinds of great ideas in them that the rest of the rover world never thought of because they are outside the rover box.

thats what wheeling is and has been about for the better part of 50 years.

Tom,

"Rovers arent that special that they need to be treated like a rolls royce".. Too true...

Funny most shops and parts suppliers have not got that word and In the aftermarket world Rover owners are about the most frugal.
I guess in part because most end up spending a fortune on routine maintence and repairs. That 4k Disco looked good initaly but ill bet in the first 3 years more than twice that is put back in for repairs..

If i had to pay the $90.00 per hour to have mine fixed I would be known as JeeperDad or H2Dad... LOL

Musky - I think Kyle was poking fun at me. Second best in virtual off-roading next to Ho. LOL.

Kyle - my truck is trail-ready now, thank goodness. No body rubbing and no extended bump stops. Real minor fender well rubbing in the rear only when stuffed real hard. Nothing to worry about. Check my photo gallery, hacking wasn't so bad, either.

tom,
....i know I am just trying to start some fun about what should and should not be done and what truck can go where why...lol

Dee,

your right about spending on that 4k disco...the axles would be like another 5k the motor another 5k.but then you'd have a chevy v8 disco on dana 60's.

I thought Bubbas only bought American. If you want a truck to look like that, get a Jeep or an old Chevy. It's too bad you can't see that sweet neon undercarriage lighting package in that photo.
Greensboro, NC is not Iceland. As Discos get cheaper, we'll start seeing more of this. Camel Trophy be damned, I suppose.
My raving 2 cents.
