I saw on one of the many thousends of pictures here that some one had a Mag Lite mounted to their rear sub-woofer via some sort of clip.

Who was that? And where did you get them?

Thanks

Ross,

I saw that too, and I did it. It works great! I fish ALOT on the beach at night and it is really handy.

I just went to Home Depot and bought the MagLite kit that includes the mounting clips. You can buy the clips separately for under $5.

Remove the overhead handle (4 screws under dust caps) and mount the clips. The clips may spin a little, but they are rock solid when the lite is locked in there...

Good luck, and thanks to whoever came up with that idea. You have enlightened me ;)

I'd like to see this pic your speaking of. Both above the Subwoofer and above the driver.
Can someone post links or tell me what Picture Gallery has these on it?
Thanks

Look up the DII for sale by Ho Chung in the FOR SALE section. I also have mine there. I've seen someone with an SD that has no subwoofer mounted his to the metal ledge in front of the window. Also mounted a small fire extinguiser there.

If you cant find the clips locally this place has them: www.action-lights.com They have the clips for $5 and their prices on maglites are really good as well.

Yeah, I have a 3-cell D Mag light on the metal of the rear door behind the spare and and I have a small fire extinguisher on the same ledge nearest to the door lock.

Up front, I mounted a 2-cell C Mag light on the plastic ledge below my drivers seat. Similar position to where the CD Door Flap would be on the passenger side.

No pictures, but if I'm nice to Paul, maybe he will shoot some of his door, my door and under my seat and post them.

screwed the clips (from Home Depot) to the left side of the plastic frame under my drivers seat. Point the bulb end towards the back of the truck and there's no interference from the door. Fits nicely and its out of the way.

I have a Mag-Lite mounted in my DII. I forget where I got the clips, but I ordered them online somewhere. I found a package that included the clips, anti-roll device and 3 different colored filters. I think it was around 7 bucks or so (maybe a little more - it's been a while).

I mounted mine in the rear cargo area. I attached it to the "column" on the right side of the vehicle that the rear selt belt disappears into. I mounted it vertically. The "lid" on top of the "column" just snaps off. I bought some nuts and bolts, drilled a few holes and screwed it right on! Works great. I'll see if I can post a picture to my gallery.

I put mine on the drivers seat bracket in front of the cd changer. I plan on putting another in the back but haven't done it yet. Here is a photo.

LOL, Yes it sure is, It's been hiking, caving, and working with me and all after finding it in the middle of the street about 15 years ago. It's got quite a history.

A nice shiney new black one would sure match my black disco but I just can't get myself to part with my faithful beat up blue mag.

Shane,

You should send that pic and story to the company that makes the Mag Lite, I am sure that they would get a kick out of it.

For the D-Cell lights, get the mounting clips, remove the grab handle above either (or both) door, and using the same holes, mount the clips. Snap in the light. About a 5-10 minute job. I did this in my D1

Tom,

I would not be too comfy having a HEAVY Mag Light above my head...if that thing falls, your in for a "dent"...no?

I prefer having mine lover than my waste, so that we can "all" be comfy...(both heads, and both balls)

I was thinking the same thing. Hate to have it break loose in an accident.

I just wish the newer Mag Lits were built 1/2 as well as the older ones. I finally lost my old one (actually Mag LIght repalced it with a NEW one) well, 2 lights later I've decided the new ones are built MUCH cheaper. They are much lighter weight, thinner walled tubing, and the switch doesnt seem to be as high of quality.
Now my Browning 5-Dcell light (Looks liek a Mag) spent 6 weeks at the bottom of the lake at the end of the Dock before I tripped on it and rejoiced that I had found it. I hit the switch and it turned right on. THat impressed me.
I think I want a newer style rechargable light though now. LIke the police use.

The maglight mounts are available at most home depots. Maglight sells so many combo packages, but I am almost certain I saw a 3 cell light with brackets in a store once.

Funny story, about 2-3 years ago our local Home Depot was selling off a couple of cases of maglight combo sets containing a 3 D Cell large light and a smaller 2 AA Cell for $10!!! I bought, ummmm 12 of the sets. LOL I gave them as Christmas presents, and also mounted the large lights next to fire extinguisers in the closets of all 4 of our bedrooms, in the basement, in the kitchen closet, and in each of the garages, and in my D2. I will mount one in the wifes Rangie soon. Sometimes you just fall into shit.....

They also work as a great home safety device. My wife is anti-gun in the home so I have a nice 5 D cell maglite under the bed.

Bring it on...

Does anyone here have any experience with the rechargable unit? I use rechargeable batteries at home and as far as holding a charge, they suck. Was curious if this is the same with the Mag-Lite, or does it work pretty well?

I've been over some pretty severe bumps, sever enough to have an 80lb satchel of recovery gear flip upside down (I definately need some tie downs in the back) and the mag light has never come off.
I use it frequently. It's hard enough to pull out of the brackets that I think if it came out in an accident it would be the least of my worries. But it's all a matter of what you are comfortable with.
The rear door is a nice location, albeit a bit inconvienient when you want to read a street sign.

Tom,

I agree, I can see how it LOOKS like it will fly out of the clips and whack you in the head, but it really takes some force to release it.

I use mine on Nauset Beach on Cape Cod, and there is some significant washboard and dunes getting out there - it has never moved...

One other thought about the light coming out of the brackets. Which would you rather have, the light hit you in the head from about 6" away (if mounted on the drivers side grab handle) or come flying from the rear door and hit you in the head? Of course, if you have a dog guard, the latter isn't an issue ;-)

Me trolling? Never!

Hey man,

If my maglight departs the back door, then there are bigger issues to worry about. Those clips are very strong.

Guys,

Why have them in areas that might be dangerous?

Mine are installed on the floor along the seats, between the seat fixtures and the front doors. I can slide my left hand and voila!

John Lee has something similar on his D-90

Paul, my point exactly about it being over my head ;-)

Nadim, but on the floor is dangerous too, it could come loose and wedge under the brake pedal. ;-)
