The magazine which holds the CDs is stuck. After I looked at it closely I can see that the one of the trays is stuck with the CD in the player portion of the unit.

It's an Alpine, the model # on the back is LRN50500.

Any suggestions on getting it "un-stuck".

It looks like there are some holes on the side of the unit that you could manually push the tray back into the magazine, but I haven't tried it yet.

If I understand what you're describing I'm having the same problem with the same unit in a BMW. What I've done to get it unstuck is to push the eject button while using a small key or something flat to "help" the tray back into the magazine. Be gentile and you might need to do it a couple of times to get it back.

Won't work. If a tray is stuck in the unit, this is how you will get it out.
1. Raise the passanger seat all the way up. Remove the three screws and the plastic 'pin' that hold the moulding around the seat base.
2. Unplug the CD unit and remove the four nuts that hold it in place. Take out the unit and place it on your work bench.
3. Remove the mounting brackets and the four little screws on the top of the unit.
4. Lift off the black metal cover from the CD unit. You will see a large geared wheel on the top of the unit. turn it and you will eject the tray from the player. Then from the back of the unit, push out the magazine.
5. Put it all back together and all should be better....Good luck ....Dave

Total time needed, about 20 minutes

" Won't work."

Okay Dave... I'm glad you're so sure about that. I can say I've had it work several times and the last time was just three days ago. Now it may not always work but it might be worth a try before digging out the tools. It took me about 2 minutes to get mine out.

For the "Key" trick. Do I push up or down on the tray that is stuck?

I tried that this morning, but without luck.

I've got a small pocketknife which does the trick, but evidently my timeing with the knife and the eject button are not good.

I got a (later found to be defective) changer from on eBay that got jostled enough in shipping to have the same problem. I drove myself crazy trying to figure out how to fix it, till one time I rather hastily put it down on my work bench, on the side, and the tray just dropped back into the magazine.

(Another quaint lil story from Erik's house of dumb luck.)

With the key trick I "helped" the tray back into the magazine so neither up or down but to the side. I did this while pressing the green eject button. You'll notice there may be some slight movement and it will stop. If you wait a few seconds (15-30 seconds) you can press the green button again and it will cycle to attempt to push the tray back in. Just try a couple of times to help it and if it's going to work it should. Don't force it. For some reason the changer I have the problem with is always with tray number 4.

Hey Al,
No need to be nasty. We are all contributing ideas to help out our fellow Land Rovers. If you crack, break or hack up those magazine trays you are out $40 for a new one. I help keep my companies 400+ airplanes flying and I am sure you wouldn't want me to force any part with a key. I believe that if it is not done right, it is wrong! That goes for a $35,000,000 airplane, a $5,000,000 jet engine and a $40 CD magazine. Thanks for letting me vent, I feel better. Good luck with the CD player, I just unjammed mine this morning and I lubed up the mechanics of it with a little lithium spray lube. Oh, yes, I also spray lubed the locks so my key doesn't wear.....LOL..... :)

Sorry... not trying to be nasty... just had one of those mornings.

It's kinda hard to break it in the way I was describing since there isn't a way to get too much leverage to force the issue. It's really just helping it along and not in the way we help something along with a 3 lb hammer doing a trail repair. :)

I also like to do things right and while I don't work on $35,000,000 airplanes I do help make sure a system of over 1 billion dollars in computers are up and running with little or no impact to service and make sure we don't end up in the morning WSJ or NYT. Sometimes to do that you just have to run cable over floor tiles to keep things running until a real solution is found.
