I need to rebuild or replace my current altinator with at least a 100amp unit. I know I have several options (one of them is not purchasing a factory or LUCAS aka prince of darkness for a reason). Does anyone know of other altinators cases that will fit into a D1? I have heard several times that people have made GM & motorcraft units fit. I just need the core (type or model #) and can have my guy rebuild anything. Any help would be appreciated. [email protected] |

Would the alternator from a D2 fit? That's a 130amp unit. |

Ed: Many folks have put GM self-exciting alternators in their Rovers. It is seemingly a pretty straightforward job from what I've seen and heard. The D-90 board has a few guys who have done it with a number of different alternators. But, I think you will find that a locally rebuilt alternator might be far more reliable than something that wasn't originally intended to go on a Land Rover (did I just say that?). See what your rebuilder can do with the existing alternator. And, for the record, your alternator is most likely not a Lucas, but a Marelli. Paul- |

Thanks for the info Paul. I do know that my alt is a lucas.. they put them in part of 95 and I was just lucky enough to get one... I do understand that my local rebuilder will do a much better job in building me something but I am looking to find out basically what alt. other people have put in so I can buy a core of that model and have them rebuild it, while I am still using my current Alt. (its perfectly fine just not enought amps. for all the gear that is on it.. winch, lights, etc.. ) Thanks again |
