I've got a '98 Disco that was until very recently a New Yorker's commute-mobile. I've never been able to engage the CDL. I'm guessing that it's never been used. I've tried all speeds, neutral, in gear, low range, high range, every combination I can think of. I told myself until recently that when I got it in the mud, and had a little give in the drivetrain that it would eventually go, but even in the mud I thought I was going to break that cute little stick off the console. Any suggestions? Is there a routine for this? ScottP |

get under there and spray the hell out of it with penetrating oil while a buddy moves it back and forth. After that the more you use it the easier it will get. |

Can you get to it for that? It's not a seperate add-on like you would put on a D2, but what I'm assuming is just a further-left position of the high/low range lever. Which raises another question, do you have to center (neutral) the stick before moving it left for lock, or can you go into the lock position while high or low is selected. It's really hard to tell what you're supposed to do when it doesn't seem to want to do anything! ScottP |

1) Firstly: Often the vehicle will have to move a bit until CDL engages. On loose surface, engage CDL and drive around a bit. Then for the might be bigger job... 2) Free up CDL 3) When fixed, be certain to use it from time to time - and also engage low-box. Roverly Yours, Frode |
