I am looking at buying a Disco 96/97/98. This would be my first rover and i don't know what to look for. I am fairly knowledgeable on the mechanical side. I would like to know if there is any known problem or issue.

Thanks

Pascal

Sorry for the spelling, i'm french canadian living in Vegas. If i may add to my original question, What is the maximum size tire yo can have on a disco without trimming your fender ( with a lift kit)??

Thanks

French Canadian living in Vegas, hmmmm... didn't dubya tell us to be on the look out for things like this??

Anyways, if you are looking for possible maintence problems your best bet is going to be to look in the archives (to the left under utilities) just read through and see problems get mentioned a couple times. In my 98 MOST of the problems so far have just been stupid stuff like the drivers door and the hood not opening, lights not working, dumb stuff like that fairly easy to fix.

As for largest tires w/o trimming you can get 235/85-16s on there with 2 inches of lift and just space the rear quarter panels instead of trimming them (link: http://www.discoweb.org/rearfender/index.htm) this only works if you don't get replacment wheels with a larger offset though.

Go to the tech section and read, there are some articles about fitting larger tires as well as a bunch of other stuff you will probablly find interesting.

Oh and trimming the fenders isn't a big deal, I had to do it because of the offset on my wheels, I was planning on just spacing them out but it didn't work and the trimming was not near as bad as I had imagined.

hey pascal...

it has seemed to me that there are a few problems (as carter pointed out) that are kind of consistent and a search of the tech section will point those out. in my time sitting on this board and reading posts, it seems to me that there are a few trucks that have a lot of troubles, a few that have virtually no troubles, and some in the middle. i would check the VIN numbers with a rover dealership to see a service history and get in touch with carfax for a report before i bought any used car. it is always best to do a little research up front...good luck.

go habs, go
go stars...
