Can you put a different shifter in the disco? I was thinking of putting in a B&M shifter if it was possible. Any other suggestions welcome...

MaryB.

R380 (five speed) or auto?

Don't think you could do much to the R380 (based on the way the shift linkage works) but I suppose you could install a different shifter on a zf. Its cable based

Mine is auto, and the shifter console is broken right now. I was going to replace it with another stock shifter console, but my hubby has a B&M shifter on his Jeep that I like real well. I was just wondering if it would fit my 95. But his Jeep has a SBC in it. Hmmmmm... can I put a SBC motor in the disco?

Thanks!

Mary , dont tell me he has jeepified you ?? You could get most after marlet shifters to "work" but I am just saying to myself "WHY???" Its already a cable shifter and it looks so at home... What does the hubby have in his jeep ? One of the cheesy long handled ratchet shifters ? A prostick would probably be the only one short enough to get in the disco and look half ass right...

Go for it Mary. I think you could fit that bad boy on there. Something with detents or something in each of the gears would be nice.

Actually I do know a thing or two about aftermarket cable shifters especially relative to rovers.

You see I am a really cheap bastard and did not feel like ponying up the huge amount of money for a D90 ZF shifter ($1000+ for consol/shifter etc.) to put in the 110 (this was before I found a $100 300TDi R380 (which BTW is getting the $12.93 bearing that went wrong with it :)) and negated all my hard work in finding a zf) so I looked around and low and behold it is not too tough to fit one to a zf.

KC and Doug both put Mr. Gasket shifters into their D90s. But their's are not stock anymore :). I was actually thinking a push button set up would be particularly trick (if a bit unsuitable offroad) and retrolooking given the basis of my truck is a 1964 but I never got so far as to find one to take apart to figure if it would work.

So no I have not done it as I ended up with a manual tranny in the vehicle in which I intended to put it.

Kyle, I sense hostility, if Mary wants to "jeepify" her truck and I want to encouge her so be it.

You know as well as I that no one reading this has put a new shifter in their disco so I thought I would pass on what I could.
