i want to add a winch, but wish to be able to run it at the front and rear of the car. any experience with front mounted recievers? my disco II will remain mostly stock until after the warrenty expires, so my off-roading will not be extreme...

thanks,

mike

I'd say forget about it. By the time you get it installed (wiring, mounting, etc.), it's the almost the same price as putting on an ARB. So, it's not a money saving feature. Also, an ARB bumper (or anybody else's) does not void your warranty. Save your money and buy a real bumper and winch. If you have money to burn, get yourself some recovery straps and a good set of mud terrains. Buy your friends some beer if there is any money left over.

Thanks,
Mike B.

If the bumper mounts are the same on a DII as they are on a DI, I'e got a nice Rovers North front Class III I'll sell you pretty cheap. It was for a DI.

keith,

i have asked at the dealership here in dallas if the front end has changed much from dI to dII, but none of these guys know...i will try harder to find out...!

mike b,

it is not so much a "money" thing as it is a "i would like to reverse winch out of things" from time to time with out rigging under the car or putting the cable under stress, bla bla bla... plus...right now i am not able to trek much and i don't want to carry the weight, change springs, et al..if the front reciever idea is absolute crap, i would appreciate knowing, but if it is ok for occasional use it seems like an easy way to have a winch one day and not have one on another...

"if the front reciever idea is absolute crap, i would appreciate knowing"

That's the general consensus around here.

You 'really' don't want to try to swap a winch from the front to the back while knee-deep in a boggy mud-hole...

leslie-

thanks...you never know until you ask, right? that is why i am here...! sometimes things that seem logical are not always practical, huh?

changing bumpers and adding a winch will probably mean changing springs too, correct?

thanks

That's why we're all here!

It'd be best to change the springs, too. Not hard, though, and springs aren't THAT expensive.

And, given enough time on the trail, you'll want to change the springs anyway....

:)
