I have read about 20 posts on these things already, and asked about them 3 times, but I still can't get it straight. I have a 95 disco, and need 2 cats. Everybody says CATCO part #6005 should fit. The guy at the muffler shop says it won't. He says I need the 9005 ones because the 6005 doesnt have anywhere for the oxygen sensors to go. I think hes lying, but other people on this thread also say that part #6005 is not correct. Does anybody know FOR SURE what the right one is? Thanks |

The oxygen sensors DON'T fit on the cats. They fit on the manifold. Just tell him to cut the old cat off the manifold and weld in the new one. Or get a different muffler shop, this guy sounds like an idiot. If he had even looked under there he would know where the 02 sensor went. Go look for yourself. -P |

That's right. JRoc installed his 6005 a few months ago with no problems. Go to another shop! |

LOL, Perroneford's right on the money! And this muffler guy's an idiot! It should also be pointed out that none of the catco converters "fit". Anyone of them that you get is gonna have to be welded in. I believe the part number was 6005, and I have a '95 Disco as well. But if you go to a shop and ask them which one fits, that might throw them off. If you want, check the archives for either catco or catalytic converters for the part number. Good Luck and if you have any other questions feel free. |

Ohh, ok. So are the oxygen sensors the same thing as the lambda sensors (as the Haynes manual calls them)? |

Because if they are, then they could be easily taken out to avoid damage during welding, correct? Therefore making the guy at the muffler shop a piece of trash? |

This is probably a dumb question, but is it okay to use Catco cats on a 96. I wondering if it would be different due to the ODBII. |

What's the other aftermarket cat manufacturer that everyone uses? Summit Racing? Seems like lots of guys run an exhaust system made up of Summit cats & flowmaster muffler... Anyone know what's better - Catco or Summit? |

Summit Racing sells Catco cats. When I bought mine a couple of years ago, Summit didn't sell anyone elses. There are several manufacturers of aftermarket cat converters including Edelbrock. I chose Catco a couple of years ago becuase they seemed to be made well, and they were dirt cheap. I have not been disappointed. They have been through dozens of water crossings, scraped on tree trunks, and other garbage. They have not given a moment's trouble. -P |

Tommy, if that's a dumb question then I'm not gonna post on this board anymore! LOL I think the Catco's that Summit Racing sells will work fine on a '96. Just don't ask Summit Racing about this because they have no idea. I'm not an expert but in the research I did for my cat I've found that a cat is a cat is a cat, the only thing that differenciates one from the other is size. They all do the same thing. Find out what size will fit in the space you have and weld it in. Simple. Perrone Ford's article on cats was very informative when I was looking into this. You might want to check it out on his website. Thanx again Perrone, and I still owe you a beer! |
