I found this front receiver for disco's to use the warn multimount on the warn website? Anyone using this setup on a disco I? I like the idea of being able to put the winch on the front or back and take it off all together when just going to work. http://www.gowarn.com/cbSearch.asp?Product_ID=WAR34697 |

Keep in mind that it is going to take away a major chunk of your approach angle and that if you ever get down in some real mud the winch will probably be under it as well. Just some things to think about. -Carter |

Daniel, Brian Friend has a set-up just like you described so he might be a great source of info. I wheel with him often and not very often has it caused much of a problem. Brian has conquered the toughest trails here in CO. With that said it does look like hell and rattles all the time but so does the rest of his Disco |

Carter, thanks for the input. Now that I think about it your probably right. Still, I was wondering if anyone has tried it. I dont beleive I have ever seen this setup on a disco. But then again, maybe there is a reason for that. |

Sean, I would rather not have something that looks like hell and rattles so I'll probably just keep saving and get a real winch bumper. Thanks for the input. |

You can buy a winch plate for your stock bumper for alot less than even the cheapest of aftermarket bumpers. You could even have one made for you. |

Daniel, I had a hitch receier fabbed by rockware. The warn receiver mounts way to low. The advantage to the multi mount is being able to move it to the rear but I have only done that once or twice. Sean is right..I do get a bit of a rattle when I am on the trail and I have my windows open. I'm not sure if it is the winch or the high lift, the feet on the high lift rattle quite a bit. A lot of guys don't like the multi mount set up if you do it right you will have about the same aproach angle as an arb winch bumper. The ability to take the think off is a huge advantage. I thought long and hard before I decided to set mine up. I checked with Miked1---he used to post quite a bit--and i looked at the warn product. What settled it for me was talking with Matt at Rockware.....he uses the multimount. He's one some serious rock crawling championships and everyone knows how good his work is. I figured if he uses the set up I'm sure it will be fine for me. e-mail if you have q and i will send you some pics, I do not have a gallery. |

Wouldnt a winch plate make access to the winch real difficult? I too have thought about this option. DAP has one of these for about $140. But I dont know how I could ever get to the winch when its up between the frame rails. Thanks all for opionions. Dan. |

Daniel, I have a hidden winch and plate on my 90 and I have not had much in the way of trouble with it. Access to the winch is from under the truck but I can still do all I need to do with plenty of space. The major advantage is it looks clean and it works with the stock bumper. The D90 stock bumper is a little weak and I've had to use the winch and a c clamp to straighten it a few times but it gives the truck character. |

Funny about that bumper straightening thing. Sean and I have a ritual just about everytime we finish a trip. We line up in fornt of each other and winch our bumpers back to shape. |

Is anyone using the hidden winch plate on a disco 1? Maybe I'll give this a try? These are only $120 at DAP. It's either get the plate or the much more expensive ARB non-airbag bumper. I'm open to reccomendations. |

I went back and forth between he DAP plate and the ARB. Eventually I decided I would rather spend some more money and have my winch on top of the mud instead of under it and not in a position to be bashed on rocks. I really think it all depends on how much wheeling you do and how difficult the trails are. If you only go out 3 or 4 times a year and it is on trails that you think you could do with the stock air dam on then you should be just fine with the DAP plate. ******Please keep in mind that I have never used the DAP winch plate, I only know how far down it hangs and have no idea of how strong it is. |

I probably wouldnt be using the winch every other day, but I still want one. My disco has spent a night stuck out in the woods cause I had no winch and couldnt get out. I would have made it out of that particular situation in about 15-20 min. with a winch. I want to be prepared for the rare occasion when I do get stuck. That said I'm not sure that I like how the ARB bumpers look. I already have a DAP brush bar on the truck and like it. If I get the DAP winch plate I'll have to do some cutting on the brush bar to make it work. If I get the ARB bumper I'll have no use for the brush bar. But the ARB will probably be much stronger ( I would get the non-airbag version). I still cant make up my mind. |
