Folks, My 98 Disco seems to tick when I am at an idle. The sound is definitly coming from the underside. If I apply the gas n park the ticking goes away, but as soon as I let it idle back down it returns. I have not been experiencng any performance issues, and I just had the dealership give it the once over and aside from replacing ignition wires and and spark plugs, they found no problems. Can anybody give me some ideas on what to check underneath that may be causing that infernal ticking noise? Thanks, Fusion45 |

More than likely it is a manifold gasket. Can you tell which side of the engine it is? I have two DI's and have replaced the driver's side manifold gaskets. Does it go away when the vehicle warms up? Hope this will assist you. |

Or, it is the manifold itself. They crack often. Tom |

I too have a 1998 LSE and was told my engineis on it's way out because it ticks while idle. Sometimes the ticks get loud. What the hell is it? No I have not gone to the dealershiper yet (Not happy about the $150 fee to look at it). Any love out there? |
