Been seeing a few posts about VSS's acting up and I suspect that mine is going out as well but my symptoms are a little different. Other posts describe "a 3-4 second loss of power" or "as if the ignition was shut off momentarily". Whereas my '94 DiscoI sort of does the "chug and surge" at or above 50mph. It'll do that for a second, then mellow out for a few seconds, then go again. Kind of "chomping at the bit". Power and response are good and the idle is smooth. Plugs, wires, cap, fuel filter are relatively new (about a year). I'm suspecting VSS, do you think I'm right? Or is this more symptomatic of a different problem? (I'm hoping it's not the Mass Air Flow sensor). Confirmation and/or conspiracy theories welcome. Jim |

Definately sounds like the VSS based on other posts here on this board. I'm hoping one of my Disco friends has theirs go out soon so I can experience the symptoms for myself! Are you sure you have your serpentine belt routed correctly? A friend put his on wrong and it worked fine for over a month and then it started doing the same thing yours is doing. We put a volt meter on it and the output seemed low. Turned out the belt was mis-routed. He also had to replace his battery at the same time. Everything has been working fine for the last month. Thanks, Mike B. |
