Well as the title states I just got my Cobra 75 WXST cb radio. I`m ready to do the install this weekend and would like to know from others that own this CB where you have mounted the REMOTE BOX. If you can please post or send me pics on where your unit is mounted. If ya can`t get any pics please discribe where you mounted it. Also to those of you who have your Antena mounted on the spare tire carrier, how hard was it to route the Coax through that boot in the rear door and get it up front in the cabin? I`ll be useing the Tech write up on EE to do the instalation of the Antena so anyone with experiance that can offer me any tips to make things easier i`ll be most grateful. Thanks Dudes!!! |

You can put the box under the driver's seat. You may have to unbolt the seat base cover to thread the Mic to down to the CB base. You can drape your cable over the center console or put a mic clip on the blank switch next to your fog light switch. There is power already under your seats (for the power seats) although it would probably be better to pull power through the fuse panel. It's not too difficult to run the CB cable through the boot in the rear door; just time consuming and tedious. We worked a coat hanger though the boot and then pulled the coax through using the coat hanger. I think we went in through the door rather than trying to get in through the rear access panel. Thanks, Mike B. |

I mounted mine under the center console, on the back side, under the rear ashtray. If you remove the console you will see a nice metal bracket. It's like a square, upside-down "U" welded to the floor. Just shove the remote box under the bracket. It's hard to get it in there and holds real tight. There is already a convenient grounding screw on the drivers side of the console mounting bracket for attaching the ground. I just routed the handset cable up between the driver's seat and the console. I made a little bracket to hold the handset that attaches between console and the set of switches where the cruise is. If you are interested I could take some pictures and post them tomorrow. As far as routing the antenna cable, I used a grommet the correct size for the cable, drilled through the door behind the spare carrier, installed the grommet, cut one end off the cable, fed it through the grommet, then out the door through the rubber boot with all the factory wiring (that's a bitch), out the side panel on the rear passenger side pillar, and under the carpet pad to the front pass seat. Then I soldered on a new connector from Radio Shack and went under the seat rail right into the remote box. Don't shorten the cable by any significant amount or it will screw up your SWR. I only cut off the connector for the purpose of feeding the cable through the smallest hole possible. I did not want to drill a hole in the door the size of a coax connector. Also it would be hell to get the connector through that damn boot. Once you get past that boot everything else is easy. Greg P |

One other QUESTION? Once the coax is through the boot where does it come out and how do i get ahold of it to pull it, know what i`m trying to say. Oh and i got a D2 so i`ll be useing the hole already in the door for the Rear wiper spray line. If you could i`d like to see the pics and how do I go about removeing the rear console where the astray is (I was looking at that spot earlier) Thabks for the help so far.!! |

Jeff, This won't really answer your question, as I opted not to permanent mount mine (been there, done that, just don't have the need at this time). I have an '01 D2. If it helps any, here are a few pics. Maybe give you some ideas, LOL I use the aux outlet in the rear cargo area, a little HD velcro and a little electrical tape and I'm good to go .... (P.S. just so Greg doesn't get blamed, this was my own design, and it holds up just fine, LOL) Kim

I took the pannel where the window buttons are in the center console out and placed the unit there. There is quite a bit of room back there. I then ran the pigtail to handset out by the seat. When I remove the handset you cant tell I have a cb installed at all. JK |

Oh wait a minute, it gets worse ... This picture doesn't tell it all - I forgot, I got busted royaly the other day with my black plastic "Scooby Doo" and "Tweety Bird" matts (mismatched - one of each) on the passenger floorboard carpet, LOL ... annonymous: (while helping me load some heavy stuff in the back) "Whua?? .. is that, ... WTF ...? ... Scooby Doo???!!!!" LOL, I had just forgot about them ... Shortly after the purchase of the D2, I bought them on the run at a Target store on the way out to the desert (big storm had come up, April '01). They were the only ones left that fit back there and did the job, LOL Kim |

Just want to thank everyone for their help so far!! KIM, Thank for the AUX power source tip. I think I may use that instead of running the wires to the battery. Just wondering how did you get your COAX in to the cab area? |

You can also mount the box behind the glove box and drop the connector pigtail down above the passenger's feet only when you are ready to use it. The coax can find a hole thru the firewall, and then to the driver's side, then follow the rear AC lines and the fuel pump wiring back to the rear. Use the fuel pump hatch to get under the carpet, and then fish it thru the rubber boot and thru the rear door to the antenna location. If you are careful, you can route it without removing any door panels. pk |

PK, Thank for the COAX routeing info. Just wondering will there be any bad effects on my CB or Coax by haveing the COAX ran out side under the DISCO? |

My control box sits behind the panel just below the steering column. There is perfect place for it in between the foam and the column. No need to hard mount it since it fits nice and snug. I just wired it up to the fuse box and the handset wire exits following the panel's hinges. Unscrew the mic hanger from the handset and stick adhesive velcro on... attach the other piece of velcro to the coin tray. http://www.pnwx.net/disco_pics/inst.JPG Mosi |

Jeff, About routing the cable, I've got a D1 so it may be different but I just pulled off the access panel behind the jump seat. Reach in there and pull the cable through. It's a real pain on the D1 because the tail-light assembly is in the way. I put my remote box right where Roverine's is except on the INSIDE of the console. I've got kid's feet stompin' around back there and can't have anything sticking out. The console is easy to lift just remove a few screws. One thing I forgot to tell you is that I ran my power wire under the center console up to the fuse box under the steering wheel. Us D1 owners don't have all those fancy power outlets everywhere Greg P |
