I've got a 2000 D2 with 55K that has a constant sort of vibration from underneath. I did a search here on this "rotoflex" thing, but the references to it seem to be on older models and have it located in the middle of the drive shaft. Mine looks to be at the end of the rear drive shaft just ahead of the rear diff. Is this a "rotoflex" as well? And could it be the cause of the vibrations? |

Dave, It could be the roto flex, which is located on the aft end of the rear shaft. Inpect this rubber item for cracks / delamination / or pieces missing. However, Your D2 might be experiencing what a lot of others have experienced. That is the front drive shaft syndrome. Do a search on D2 vibes or D2 shafts and many threads will come up talking about the non serviceable joints grenading. Do not ignore your vibe problem; it could cost you more damage on the long run. |

If you do not see cracks and such, take your front driveshaft out (it's not too hard to do, there is a how to in the tech section, look at Step 1 http://68.49.112.94/shafts/tomwdriveshaft.html), lock the CDL using 10mm open end wrench, and drive it. If the vibration goes away it is more than likely the front shaft. Take it to a local shop and have the u-joints in the double cardon joint replaced with serviceable u-joints. You may want to go ahead and replace the u-joint on the front part of the driveshaft as well. If you know what you are doing, or like me, THINK you know what your doing, you can try to replace the u-joints yourself. I tried it, now I am looking for a shop to fix it... But yeah, you can read many post on this site about D2 driveshafts blowing apart, or nearly blowing apart. Beau |

Thanks for all the replies. I've contacted a local highly recommended shop that'll balance shafts and replace the U joints for $65 plus parts. I'm thinking both shafts and a new rotoflex as I plan on starting to tow more in the near future. |
