A simple DWEB Observation...

I was looking around the ol' DWEB and it really does seem that all those that have been around here the longest and who have high post counts seem to hang out in the "General" section. Back in the day I used to LIVE in the D1 section and now I have NO idea who any of those posters are... Just an observation.

I long for the days of Muskyman and NETJAWS!

The classic models have been discussed to death. The newer models don't appeal to enthusiasts. That leaves general.

10-15 years ago there wasn't many porn sites, now there are a lot of porn sites. pussy is always better to look at than arguing about politics and 36" tires.

Been on dweb since '99. Probably 99.99% of anything possible to be discussed about the Land Rover Discovery has been covered already.

The other thing is I moved from discos to a 90 and 110 when I got stationed in the UK. I still preferred this site over D90. Then I sold those trucks and now have an 88" project. I'd love to have another Disco but for now I still like seeing what others are doing to theirs or what problems they are still dealing with and if any help can be provided.

If this was true, our tech forums would be dead. They're actually our most popular boards.

Another interesting tidbit: back when I first started hosting DWeb (7 years ago, I think), we got about one or two new signups a day. We're getting 10-12 a day now. Not sure what's changed but DWeb gets more traffic now than it has in years.

I don't think anything has changed. That's the point. Every other forum is miserable with ads and pop-ups. Some people probably don't even know there are ad free forums.

Hello, although I write a little in Dweb because mechanics of my Disco do not match the one of the majority for being diesel, I participate since 2000. In all these sites there are people of passage and others who seem to be part of the operating system. In my local club here the same happens in technical boards, but social sections have been left without activity. The reason is that most have "moved" to a Facebook community and are also communicating through Whatsapp! The group where I have been entered has a post every 3 seconds! If I leave my cell phone connected it surely will not take long to explode! One member that is stuck in the snow with its Defender, the other looking for oil for R380 in supermarket, another on the route with an alternator burned pain, etc, etc .... And our old mate, our forum, is dead ...

I just like to argue.

Oh, and yeah-this forum isn't dead. It just has peaks but the tech-as Blue notes-has been discussed ad nauseum. I used it all the time as a reference for my D1 but now having owned one for most of the past 13yrs off/on there isn't much that I haven't had to do or seen done (and found help here).

We could see more traffic in the newer models (LR3/D3) but that doesn't seem to have resonated, yet.

The only problem is that all the useful information is buried among a whole lot of bitching and arguing.. It makes it hard to find answers. Thats why I always try to update my threads with the solution for the problem I asked.

Well it seems that the people who have a lot of Rover knowledge like to bitch and argu. If somebody's looking for any kind of moderation they are in the wrong arena.

I lurked here shortly after Dweb started up. I had a Series III at the time and Rovers North really had the most active site for Series owners. I would come here once in awhile. I picked up an '85 RRC right around the '00 election and signed up in '01 if I'm not mistaken. I remember both the help of the tech boards and unending arguments in the general section with people like Mark Preston about the need to go to war in Iraq. A lot of regulars from those days are no longer around. Some have even left this mortal coil.

To chime in, I recently came here from another site that was loaded with ads. My first preference now is to check Dweb, however it does feel that the tech discussions are not as active. Also while some users may have had their vehicles since the beginning, I fall in the category of being a relatively new owner of a D2.

There will always be questions asked over and over because forums are designed to facilitate conversations. They are not a "wiki" full of knowledge. It can be very difficult to wade through a long thread to find the answer to a relatively simple question. I do use the search feature as my first attempt, but just based on the way conversations of thread topics can be listed it isn't always as straightforward as asking a question and hoping for an answer.
