Removing Exterior Door Rub Strips

In considering removing the wheel arches on my D2 I thought it would look odd to leave the black plastic 'rub strip' (for door dings) on each door on. Removing these will kind of complete the clean look of no wheel arches also. Are these held on by double sided tape similar to the wheel arches or am I stuck with them? Haven't been able to find much on this topic but don't want to start yanking on them if they are firmly fastened to the doors or I would be left holes in the doors

Mine were attached with the double faced tape. I heated them with a heat gun and pulled to remove them. I then used heat, spray carb cleaner and plastic razor blades to remove remainder of the adhesive.
