I've had my Yaesu 857 for a year and a half and still haven't installed it. My interior is completely unmolested and I have a hard time putting it in even though I spent $1200 or so on the radio, cables, antenna and mount.

Even though it's one little radio, it will still remind me of netjaws.

I'm in the same boat. I've had an Icom 706MKIIG sitting in a box for at least two years. I finally figured out where I will install the main CPU part. I'm going to build it into my new cubby box for the back. Someday.

I guess I need to earn a sequential call sign first...

Peter, I can't remember the exact requirements, but I believe that anyone with an amateur license can get a standard 2x3 vanity call sign, but only Extras can get a 1x2 or 2x1.

You guys crack me up!
No shit Bill.
In price, necessity, and my proficiency to operate it, a Yaesu 857 ranks right up there with a Sig P226.
Price is the only quality in this list that can be measured as "high."

I'll go on the assumption that you aren't joking and answer the question. No, you can apply for any vanity license appropriate for you license class. The number in the call sign designates the geography, not the letters. For example, WA and ID are 7 and CA is 6.
