Yes, soon. Just got back from Texas with my new dog (still on a Rudy's coma). My certification evals are in October, and we will be busting our asses to meet the deadline. After that, I'll get the HAM.

After about six hours on hamtestonline, I'm thinking I may have to fall back on a couple of old soup cans and a long piece of string.

I'll keep at it and shoot for taking the test this Fall.

It was only a nine-month wait but my Elecraft KX3 finally showed up. The KX3 is an ultraportable 10W HF transceiver for 6-160 meters. It has a built-in antenna tuner and DSP filter. I bought this radio for backcountry use because it fits easily in a backpack pocket and runs on a small external lithium battery. I figure that I'll bring it on the Utah trip, too, as a backup since it's so small and easy to stash.

I actually have a FT-897D, not the 817, and it's for sale. The 897 can output 100W but it's heavy. The 897 would be great if I was doing Field Days and that sort of thing, but I'm not.

Elecraft is coming out with an internal 2-meter module for the KX3 to add VHF capability.

Anybody have Tillery's e-mail or phone number? I need to order a new fuel pump.

Getting excited about the 2013 trip. Is everybody still in?

It seems a little early to set dates; I figure we can decide on some dates once it's November or so.

I need to dig out the topos and start plotting some potential routes.

I'm still in, along with my buddy. If he bails, driving out will be scrubbed. It'll then turn into a fly-and-ride for me.
