So I have this rusty ass disco that (was) running like a champ. Nobody wanted it so I figured may as well build something fun out of it. Went to move it today and now it wont start - tried jumping it but it seems as the starter isnt getting enough power and it's making the dreded clicking.. - Will figure that out later though..

So I tore out all of the interior and prepared it for the chop. I am going to hack off as much as I can before I start to clean it up and start the welding.

Here is what was removed today

Here's the "plan"

I love the riveted body panels haha so awesome

Pretty sure the security ECU was bypassed?? Is this possible? I found it in a box in the back of the truck and the harness is cut and spliced all over the place - it's a mess..

Other than that - I am excited - gonna start really cutting into it tomorrow.

Looks like its a great candidate for a truggy since its a rust bucket in its current form. Keep us posted on the progress!

Thanks, will do. Tomorrow I hope to get a lot of the chopping done. I am thinking cutting it about halfway thru the rear doors and re-using the rear hatch door for the back of the cab.

I am excited and probably will be until I have to finish the front floors..

have fun...I'm going this route:

I would too if I had the money for it. This build is purely for fun and is going to be a cheap ass project. First goal is getting it running with the cab complete.. Then onto tray - relocating tank, cutting the extra off the frame and fabbing up something to cap that off. Then a cage if I find some money somewhere.

Ditto on the taxes, still not sure what last year's carnage will be.

As for the project, trust me, it's gonna be more work than you ever imagined.

First things first, get it running again-hopefully just needs a live battery. Then, after removing each wire, check to see that it starts. There are grounds on the D-pillar that are critical to the EMS. Yeah, I know, makes no sense, but then again, Land Rover runs wires back ad forth across the bulkhead for seemingly no reason but to confuse us when we have a problem.

Before you start cutting wires, decide exactly what you want to keep, this way you won't remove something and later on realize you wish you'd kept that circuit.

Consider retaining the heater, or at least the wiring to it. Not being able to defrost your windscreen is a PITA and regardless of your climate, defrost is a very good thing to have.

Good luck, it's a lot of fun to start a project like this. I'm told it's fun to finish one. I've started at least two and sorta finished one. The Rangie project is in that "oh fuck, what have I done?" stage right now-BUT, it still runs!

When using the grinder, cover the glass, otherwise, you'll get bits of what will soon be rusty metal in the glass and it's really annoying when the sun hits it just right.

If the truck is where ti's gonna be for awhile, just tape several layers of newspaper over the glass. If I'm gonna be awhile, I'll cut cardboard so it can be taken down, but most of the time, I grab a roll of masking tape and a grocery bag full of newspapers and go to town covering all the glass.

Good to know about the grounds I was wondering what was with all of them onthe center of the D pillar. I will retain all that wiring and probably most of it until the cab is done. Gonna go pick up some resporators and new/good eye protection today it's gonna be interesting.

pikes peak rovers had one in their shop last summer when we stopped by.

very nice, but too tube buggy for me at this point.

Rockware is only a few miles from them.

Jake. Don't make a trayback junker. Take it apart and make a 100" Defender or Series. You'll be happier with it in the end.

With how much rust this truck has it may evolve into that. I honestly started this project to curb my money spending on the white one after buying the rear bumper from Denny.

^what he said.

Am I the only one that salivated over the rock ware pikes peak buggy? for me the next thing is a full on buggy. But life is short, so chop that truck up and have fun jake. As far as electronics....just get a carb intake manifold and be done with it!

Yea this is what you do when you're a poor 24 year old kid :D

I love the pikes peak buggy. I would love to build something nice like that when I have legit shop space in the future. I feel like when you get to that point it's nearly pointless to use Rover parts though.
