I'm better, and now it's time to get the Rover better again. I don't have the time to finish up this stuff and do what I want right now, though.

So, what's going on today in the world of Rover tuners/restorers/mechanics/dealerships?

Where would you send yours in an ideal world? ECR is busy, according to their site.

Could just send it to a dealer, but everyone seems to be scared of the engines now, and if they aren't aware that not all RV8s drop cylinders, I don't want them touching anything on my vehicle. I'm not going to suffer any damned fools.

The last place in town that doesn't try to steal titles is full of idiots. The guy I used for things I couldn't be bothered to do before sold his shop and disappeared after someone shot his dog.

I want someone who's actually going to take their time, and not bury Heli-Coils all over the place when I'm not looking. I want the heads refreshed properly, as if I were doing it, or as close as reasonable.

Sick of hanging up the phone on morons. So, who's still on their feet? It would be nice if they were in the Southeast, but whatever... Not shipping the thing overseas, though.

Cheers,

Kennith

I could use the performance shop here, and they're great, but it'll take six months.

Where's "here" in NC? Flying Circus has always provided top notch work for me since 1999 and over 350,000 miles on 3 vehicles Disco 1, 2 and 3 mostly on the older ones of course being owned longer.

This. I have a feeling he knows this already, but just felt the need to type! Lol

Being in triangle area, who have you had experience with and for how long? A friend went to a place in Cary trying to save $ and wasn't very impressed after the initial feel-good tone.

In the 12-13yrs Ive had the D2, Ive tried just about every Rover shop in the area at least once. Ive had bad experiences with just about all of them. I have never been to Flying Circus though..
Discovery Automotive in Cary probably does the best work, but they are pricey and the owner is an asshole.

British 4x4 is by far the worst. I kept having to bring my truck back after they said they fixed issues, that obviously were not fixed!

Lenny in Wake forest is Ok, but can be hit or miss.

Euro motors is new.. Ive stopped by just to check out their shop/dealership.. Nice guys, not sure about the work quality.

In truth, my truck hasnt been to a shop in at least 5yrs.. I decided to just start doing all the work myself. No need in paying someone too much money to half ass do a job.

You should try FCEC. The experience is night/day compared to Discovery Auto IMO and from what my friend found as well though years later... You might think they do the "best work" in the area but that would be because you've never got to have John (now deceased) work on yours ;)

Toby the owner is about the nicest owner/ mechanic I've ever met. Family run. I trust them with setting up cross country vehicles for my mom in the past and for myself. They have done deep engine work as well as extensive custom outfitting. Seeing the various restoration jobs are alone worth the visit. ;)

Kennith, I don't think anyone is going to be up to your standards.

Right now, my standards are a touch lower.

I just want someone who will take their time. This engine has never been apart, and it's been sitting a while. It's fine, and it'll still run plenty fast without a hiccup, but it needs head gaskets, and I'd like some other things looked over and handled.

Pretty sure I'm going to lose some parts here and there, as some of the plastic stuff likely won't survive removal. Might look into one of those "corrected" replacement modulators, as well. It needs a touch of restoration, in the end.

Honestly, we could use a good thread like this anyway. Information on shops around the net tends to be a little out of date.

Just realized I'd completely missed the Joel connection. He seemed like a great guy last time I went over there.

I think I'll drop him a line. He might be just the kind of picky I need, and probably has a lot of stuff I want, too.

Why not get Joel to do it? You are taking about your fungus filled D2, right?

Eh, I fixed that, mostly. Probably have to replace the climate control stuff just in case, but at least it's clean.

That was transferred from another vehicle, and the fact that I wasn't driving the Rover didn't help.

I'm just going to strip it out again. That's the way it's spent most of it's life, anyway. I was just hoping to enjoy some stock interior goodness for a change.

Cheers,

Ill keep that in mind if I ever have to take it somewhere.. My "best work" comment was because they were the only shop I didnt have to take the truck back to after they claimed to fix the issue!

I don't know what FCEC is.
