Shipping a vehicle

Any tips you guys would recommend when having a vehicle shipped? I found what looks to be a decent 5 speed D1 and am toying with the idea of shipping it, or have him ship it.

Obviously that part freaks me out, paying money to someone and hoping they do the right thing.

I guess I really would like to know what company people have used and we?re pleased with the experience.

Also any tips on the process would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I use a guy named Joe Tutera. He's got trucks all over the States. Most carriers will make you send an empty truck so it doesn't get broken into. This guy shipped a truck for me loaded with a shit ton of spare parts strapped down in it. jtutera@shipnet.com is the best way to reach him.

Unfortunately that link did not work I got the email returned. I will try to search him

I've used Carla with Bullseye Shipping three times now. 530-529-6972. One shipment was MS to CA, one VA to CA, and one WA to CA. All decently priced but she was able to work with my inflexible schedule and many many many caveats and extra problems like other people having to open up gates and farms to access vehicles.

When I moved cross-country back in 2000, 1 of our vehicles was on a car carrier for the trip.
Enclosed options are also available.
I have no recollection whatsoever about cost.

Wouldn't it be a good idea to go see the car, then drive it home to work out the wrinkles?

Thanks guys. I’ll give Carla a call too and see what they will cost.

I would like to go see the truck and me and the wife have talked about both options. It’s pretty far to fly and drive. It could break down then I’d be in a real pickle.

There are a lot of Colorado folks on here

Fly out here and drive it back

22 hour drive man I dont know. After plane ticket, hotels, and gas I think the risk isn?t worth the small savings. Carla gave me a quote. Both quotes I got were 1000ish.

$1k doesn't sound too bad. My friend and I shipped our Defenders back to NYC from California and it was about $1400 per truck. We used a broker named Athena Hall. A lot of Defender guys have used her if I remember correctly.

1400 for a defender wouldn?t sound bad. That is not half the price of the car. If I were to pay 2500 for the truck then spend 1k on shipping it?s just such a high percentage of the trucks value. I think I?m just going to try wait for something closer to pop up.

I would like to fly and drive but just don?t have the time right now

There was a nice D1 about 6 hours away I was going to go get this weekend but he sold it in 2 days.

Well, if you know how to time caffeine and nicotine to your advantage you can drive it in one straight shot. I did 1475 miles in close to 22 hours straight in a D1 that was lifted and on mud terrains. Sleep on that plane flight then get in and go.

If the truck is worth it the shipping is worth it. $3500 on the east coast might not be that nice of a truck in the end. At this point most of the value to be had is in the rust condition.

Try driving a softtop 110 back from Baltimore to Tucson, that maxed out at 64mph...was like spending 3 days in a cement mixer

Book a flight, jump in the truck, point it east and drive it until you're either hallucinating that youre in own bed, or actually are...
