Hi
Looking for advise on what the comfiest shocks for a stock D1 would be?
Was thinking of Monroes?
Thx
Steve

Way too open ended of a question. What conditions are the vehicle normally driven in. What are the specs for the D1? Lift? No lift? Stock tire size or larger? A lot of factors affect ride quality.

Over the last 18 years it's gone through many variations
She's now back to stock
Been running OME's for almost all of 18 those years, lifted and not lifted

The bushings rottted off after 4 years on the last set and
Through in a set of Boge Gas Turbos
Nice but stiffer than the nitro chargers

Am thinking of swapping out again to more comfortable ones
- and thought of asking here

Driving is mostly city now with only light trails once a year

I've got OME on my Disco 2 from the previous owner and they are sagging pretty bad in the front due to weight (steel bumper, steering guard plate and warn winch).
I'm seriously looking at the Fox 2.0 shocks for all around.

Bilstein 5125 would be the softest I ever had on my D1. Followed, by increase in stiffness, by
Terrafirma Big Bores
Old OME
Factory Woodheads
Random Monroe shocks bought here and there to replace broken Woodheads, Bilsteins, and Nitrochargers
Stock-replacement Bilsteins
New OME Nitrochargers

I had Bilstein 7100's on my old DII with RTE springs. A customer came in with OME shocks and RTE springs, and their truck had much more of a harsh ride than mine.

Replaced with Konis then Boge but couldn't handle the hard ride.
I've just gone back to Woodward/Monroe and am as happy as a monkey with two doings.

I like Fox, I just replaced an older set of fox remote res on my DII with the 5/8" 10" travel ones. They are valved a little softer than my old ones and what most people use on these trucks, but it is much smoother than before.

The shock wont fix sagging. The spring is what you need.

Side of the road....
Of the 4 Rovers I've had, 3 were lifted. Of those 3, the best and most comfortable setup was the Bilstein 7100s with RTE springs, after that would be Terrafirma, followed by OME HD. I have OME HD at the moment, and with the truck unladen it gives a pretty harsh ride.

I'm intrigued about the RTE springs comment. I currently have OME springs to get me to a ~2.5-3" lift but am seriously considering switching to RTE 3" progressive coils. Comments from folks that have used them (sorry for the hi-jack, though I think it all ties together).

True shocks have little to do with ride height... they are dampers.
