The RS1 looks very close the LR4 in size and shape. Very smart design for approach and departure angles too.

My LR4 is in the shop for the dreaded coolant leak. Luckily it's just a pinhole leak in the radiator. After 24 years of Land Rover ownership I've just accepted that you can get hit with a thousand dollar repair or maintenance expense at any time. Right now I am averaging $381.51 per month in repair expenses per month over 3.42 years of LR4 ownership. That's repair expenses, not including regular maintenance. If I add in maintenance then my average per month is $623.02. Granted, I have a shop do it all so a lot of this is labor expense but I would either be paying the direct expense or paying with time.

That's crazy

I've had my LR3 for six years, I don't think I've spent more than 6k total.

It's such a crock of shit we can't get that here in the states. Except this color, it should be unavailable everywhere. And that LC Mini. Who the fuck puts a color like that on a vehicle and thinks "oh yeah, people will snatch these up".

Or, queers for palestine. Not sure how well that would sell in the off-road community.

That is a very bizarre thing to say. The color is common on jeeps, so it must sell just fine to the "off-road community". Also common on challengers.

That color, which is on quite a few cars that I see (mostly jeeps), is an iconic color. A like new limelight superbird went for $750k on Mecum.

I've tried to think if I've ever seen a vehicle that color and I can't remember having done so. Maybe I have, but it's defiantly not a daily occurrence, or weekly, or monthly around here. It must be a regional thing. To me that's an absurd color for a vehicle, almost as absurd as queers for Palestine. Pea green cars, queers for Palestine, and calling people names over the 'net. They all exists on a certain level of stupid.

Dude I've watched your post here. Gotta ask, you come across as a member of the lucky sperm club. Someone who was born on 3rd base and thinks they hit a triple. Am I wrong? I've seen you were a "white water guide" but I can't see how that pays for months long trips across the US. Have I miss judged you? It's easy to do on the interweb.

Definitely daily here. That color's history is at least 53 years old. It's not my cup of tea either, but many people dig it.

I was wring about price. $775K.

Anyone checked out the Rivian RS1? I have an appointment to test drive one after the new year and after I get back from Mexico. Steep entry price but man it looks nice. More flat floor length with 2nd and 3rd row folded than the LR4. 835 HP and 908 torques. 350 or so miles on a full charge. Beats the hell out of my 250 mile per tank LR4. Vegan leather interior....LO fuckin' L. I might swan dive into the full electric hippie crowd.
Bill Burke has been wheeling / testing a Rivian.

Impressions:
Front seats: crappy on par with LR4, slightly better.
Climate controls: on par with a 1968 Wagoneer.
Power: less than in a 5.0 LR4, but plenty otherwise. 90 mph arrives scary fast and unexpected.
Gas mileage: better than an LR4, far better than a Classic or D1. Expect about 350 miles per tank - but I will not skip a gas station in Tonopah going to Ely.

What worries me the most is the battery. Looks like Rivian warranties the battery for 8 years and 175K or 150K miles (depending on version of vehicle) which is pretty good. But how much will a full battery replacement cost if it's not warrantied or out of warranty? Most EV buyers chalk this off as a moot point because they laugh and say who keeps their cars for more than about 5 years, not to mention 8 years? I do. I personally think this laissez-faire attitude to the big battery question is a symptom of our instant-gratification and throw-away disposable society. So what if the battery costs a fortune and needs to be replaced after 8 years? Not my problem, I'll get rid of the car and buy another one before it becomes a problem.

On the other side of the coin, I certainly do see the incredible benefit of not having to repair/replace all the other typical components. Looking at my LR4 maintenance log over the past 3.25 years, I've repaired or replaced the water pump, coolant piping, an O2 sensor, fuel tank flange (twice), motor mounts, expansion tank, battery, spark plugs, front differential, and radiator. Plus I've changed the oil 10 times and serviced the transfer case and locking rear differential. I've also had 2 full brake jobs done on the front axle and 1 on the rear. None of that would be necessary on an EV (except maybe brakes but I heard they last nearly forever).

I read an article where a fam bought their 16 yr old daughter an EV for her first car. Can't remember the model, not a Tesla or any thing stupid. Anyway, cost was like 8k. Within a year they started have problems, took it to the dealership. Needed new batteries to the tune of like 14k, I think. Don't hold me to that but it was something stupid in that ballpark. So unless you buy a high end EV that holds its value, once a car needs new batteries you are underwater with it. I don't see how the EV thing does anything but implode. Once stories like this become common who in their right mind buys a used EV? But how does a lower middle class family with a couple of kids afford 4 new EV's sitting in the driveway? Or 56k in batteries for 4 8k used cars. We are all just bulls with rings in their nose being lead by people who have no idea what they are doing.

In the golfing world it is a given that an electric golf cart fleet is less maintenance than gas powered.
