Previous owner took this rig to a dumb mechanic. Between #3 and #5 cylinder a raised thread repair which caused problems as you can see from the gasket. Then the mechanic stripped one of the bolts and just left it there. Hey I can’t complain it was free. But this engine is coming out.

I have working on my 1997 disco taking off the head bolts and one was stripped. What’s a good kit to repair the stipped thread, 97 disco 1 petrol 4.0 gems

Update! bent push rods ! I am going to do a leak down test and check the compression. This vehicle is a project and I really dont want to do a total rebuild. Question: if the leak down test is good you think I can get away with just replacing the rods and maybe the lifters ? Should I replace...

Update did a compression check and #1 zero pressure #5 zero compression.

Got offered a 4.2 from a LWB. I wanted to drop it into my 1995 Land Rover discovery but did some research and haven’t really got a good answer if it’s just “plug and play” some say you need to change the flywheel and “chip the ECM” has anyone place a 4.2 with a dizzy into a 94-95 disco ?

I am in the same boat. I am thinking of rebuilding it. I just got a chance to get a 4.2 from a 95 LWB. But don’t know if that will be plug and play in my 95 disco heard you need to chance flywheel , ECM chip, etc….

I decided to keep it lol.

I got it running but still have that code p1313 And now it has a loud “rover tick “. I really like this Rover 96 disco nonsunroofs and it’s white my fav. thinking of just pulling the engine. And taking my time with it. i am going to spend more time on my 95 disco. Thank you all for the help

Update: i have fuel pressure I have spark Took out the brand new spark plugs and noticed them all look good. going to look at the reluctor ring. on the OBD2 scanner the MAF still shows 0%
